I was reading the thread about the Serpent and I got to wondering about the birth signs. So rather than hi-jack a thread I thought I'd ask my question here. Does every person in Tamriel have the same benefits from being born under say the Mage? Or is it like your character is a mutant or at the least an exception and is special to get whatever benefits your PC has from his/her birthsign you pick when you create them?

keep in mind that the abilities we are granted are strictly a gameplay issue.

for example, a person born under the Tower doesnt have a magical spell to open an average lock once per day - he is simply more talented at picking locks. the other signs are similar, people are naturally a little better at running or slightly more charismatic than someone born under a different sign.

What Lady Nerevar said; to add to that, you get those abilities because you're the Hero (the actual title of the Hero varies from game to game); you are special from a lore perspective, perhaps, but there's also gameplay issues involved as well.

I'd always assumed you have to be born, like, *exactly* under it, maybe in some kind of metaphysical sense or at a specific instant in time. I don't picture it being like RL astrology.

Yes, everyone gets the same blessings from the stars. Shadows are very good at hiding, Thieves are adept and favored by fortune, Apprentices naturally attract lots of Magicka to themselves, and Atronachs can't regenerate magicka but they svck it up like a sponge.

The exact abilities themselves don't really matter as they are different from one game to the next. I just hope that the birthsigns are better-balanced in TES 5.

Exactly. The magic spells and such are only given to Heros (those who aren't bound by the Elder Scrolls) in the same way nobody else understood what runestones did.

Well, that's understandable. Most of the time, people will know how old it is then still make the post.

I remember when I did that when I first joined. Though I did it much worse, at a much earlier date in my forum-career, and I probably did it on purpose

Anyway, do we want to carry on this thread or not? I'm guessing no for now, so I'll refrain from offering my opinion.


EDIT: I noticed that you weren't and what I meant from much earlier date I was trying to say I did it much worse than you had done when I was even newer than you, implying that you are not new, per se. Sorry if I wasn't clear, I wasn't trying to get elitist on anyone. Heavens know I'm certainly not the most capable or knowledgeable person here, not by a longshot
