Most Underrated Games

And it got due credit for the parkour.

It fell down in reviews for its weak story and occasionally poor level design, as well it should. I loved Mirror's Edge but I wouldn't call it underrated.

Agreed. If anything, Mirror's Edge is overrated by it's fans. Cool concept, but very lacking.

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise.

Surprisingly deep and challenging for a "kids" game

lol, I know what you mean, I consider myself rather adept at video games in general but I just could not grasp Viva Pinata :P

I think Darkest of Days is underrated, sure it got mundane and the graphics were sub par but the story was interesting and the whole travelling through huge battles across history is a great concept. It was left wide open for a sequel, but since it recieved such poor reviews and probably not many sold copies I dont think it will happen.

Another underrated game is Brothers in Arms Hells Highway, solid all around tactical shooter with a really good story but recieved poor reviews for its half assed multiplayer and because of that (and the few copies that were sold in a CoD and Halo dominated shooter market) I doubt the sequel that they hinted at will happen.

I view Nehrim similar to the way I view New Vegas. It uses the same engine, but stands on its own.

True, although New Vegas is still set in the same fiction as Fallout 3, is it not? Nehrim is set in a completely different fiction to Elder Scrolls games, with its own lore etc.

I didn't really like it that much. Very impressive for being a mod, sure, but after 10ish hours of exploring I was rather bored of it. The story didn't interest me at all. The capital Erothin did impress me a lot though, compared to the relatively plain towns of Oblivion.

Each to their own I guess. I found the world to be much more interesting to explore than Oblivion's as it was roughly the same size but completely hand-designed. I also found the main storyline a lot more interesting, with some of the quests being incredibly epic.

Alpha Protocol comes to mind when talking about underrated games. It sure wasn't devoid of problems or undeserving of some of the criticism it got, but I thought it was still one of the better aRPG's of recent years.
Same goes with Risen.

And of course the buggy and glitchy masterpieces of Troika Games.

I fully agree on both points. Alpha Protocol was easily one of my favorite games of 2010, I loved it. Troika made some really great games, but the bugs killed their reputation.

Boktai series. The only reason I can really see as to why people didn't care for them was the fact that you needed to go out into the sun to play.

Which was essentially nullified by the second one.

Anyways, definitely Boktai.

Total Annihilation. Best dollar I ever spent.

And Total Annihilation: Kingdoms. I liked how the campaign constantly switched who you were playing so no one side had a ridiculously long winning streak like in most RTS campaigns.

Mafia

I don't remember its release on PC all that well, and when it finally made it to consoles a few years later and I seem to recall it being mostly overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto. I thought it was significantly better than any GTA (sans maybe Vice City). I could almost say the same thing about Mafia II.

I agree. Mafia has the only scene that has actually made me sad (the ending cutscene).
