Streamline Settings

Post » Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:30 am

Hello.

Like the description says, I need some help with streamline. I hope someone can help me out.

I am running oblivion at a steady 30 FPS ( caped at 30 ) while im exploring and such, but it tends to drop to ~25 and sometimes ~20 when I enter combat with 3 or more opponents.
I would like streamline to keep the fps at a steady 30 fps in combat by changing the graphic settings, without touching any of the settings when I am out of combat.

Thank you.

Tomlong's site is indeed great, but that page doesn't answer any of the OP's questions. Streamline's Streamsmooth feature has always just been trouble for me. Even more so if you are using Oblivion Stutter Remover (which I suggest you do). I don't think there is any way to have it adjust FPS for combat alone. I would turn that feature off altogether and maybe give http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33627 a try. I haven't used it myself, but it looks like it could do what you are looking for.

Thank you, that is a very useful guide. However, I am not entierly sure how the streamsight settings works.

These are the default settings in streamline 3.1
;===================================================================================; [Streamsmooth FPS Settings] Acceptable Minimum FPS & Detail Settings;===================================================================================set SLfpsmon.High to 31 ; Highest minimum FPS (top of range)set SLfpsmon.Low to 26 ; Lowest minimum FPS (bottom of range);-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------set SLv.maxVLOD to 100 ; Highest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 100 (Max: 100)set SLv.minVLOD to 0 ; Lowest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 0 (Min: 0);-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------set SLv.CombatFPS to 3.0 ; The number of FPS added to the min/max ; range when combat is happening nearby;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------set SLv.FPSmoninterval to 6 ; Update interval for FPS smoothing ; (Number of updates per second) ; Faster updates = smoother performance ; Smoother performance = more CPU usage ; Default: 6/secset SLv.sensitivity to 7.0 ; Sensitivity to changes (Default: 7.0) ; This is a relative number representing ; how fast Streamsmooth tries to adjust ; details to reach your FPS range. ; Lower numbers = faster changes

If I understand this corectly, streamline will try to keep the fps at 29-34 in combat? And if so, 26-31 when out of combat? In that case the default settings seems pretty good. However im not sure what these settings do?
set SLv.maxVLOD to 100 ; Highest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 100 (Max: 100)set SLv.minVLOD to 0 ; Lowest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 0 (Min: 0)

Ooh and in the readme it mentions that streamline will make changes in the oblivion ini file. Which is fine, but will it reset those values back to default when the fps is within min/high fps range?

That mod seems to be exactly what im looking for. And yes I am using OSR aswell and like you said, streamsmooth and streamsight seems to be more problem thats what its worth. I love the streamsaves though!
Anyway, I will give that mod a try instead. It seems pretty neat.

Thank you :)

Well, streamsight is the only reason I still have Streamline installed. I love the atmosphere the closer fog adds, plus it does give a nice boost to FPS, especially when using RAEVWD.

Indeed. I only use Streamline for StreamSave and StreamPurge. Also, OSR for FPS smoothing. And a "small number" of other mods... ;)

Streamline is not for low-end machines It will make your game even more slow
Your best option would be not to use it that's all I have to say

I used to only use StreamSave and StreamPurge but the fps droped rapidly
Vanilla without SL fps was around 60 with SL the fps halved to 30

set SLv.maxVLOD to 100 ; Highest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 100 (Max: 100)set SLv.minVLOD to 0 ; Lowest overall level of detail (%) ; Default: 0 (Min: 0)

Those values are the min and max of the detail in the game :) (You probably already guessed that). They more or less correspond to setting the sliders in the video options in the game (You can even see those sliders move). These settings can be controlled individually in the "Detailed Streamsmooth Settings" section further down in the INI.

Ooh and in the readme it mentions that streamline will make changes in the oblivion ini file. Which is fine, but will it reset those values back to default when the fps is within min/high fps range?

Actually it Streamline does not make changes to the INI directly, but because the game save the Video Settings to the ini on exit, any changes that Streamline makes will be saved. Streamline does not have a default setting, and does not keep a backup of your default settings. So no, it does not reset them.

I use both OSR and Streamline, they do different things and are IMO really not alternatives to each other. My FPS settings in OSR are 40, and 30-20 in Streamline with CombatFPS set to 5. I have also tweaked some of the values in Detailed Streamsmooth Settings.

If I could code, I would actually try and make a updated version of Streamline, because I'm sure OBSE today have functions that would make it even better.
