Because I don't think this has been confirmed, nor denied, yet.

Will the world map be like Morrowind? As in the map was covered with fog until you explored that area, then you could see what locations was there etc.

My final question, will we have all the major towns/cities already "discovered" for us? As in we can fast travel there from the get-go.

I hope Bethesda will return to Morrowind in this aspect of design, this was the best choice in my opinion.

Nothing confirmed, but the map likely won't be shrouded. And they'll likely stick with what they did in FO:3 by making you find the cities before you could fast travel to them.

None of this is confirmed, just speculation on my part.

I was under the impression that 'no fast travelling to undiscovered locations' has been confirmed?

I don't mind "return-to" style fast traveling ala Fallout 3, but I despised the fact that the cities in Oblivion were pre-discovered. It is "optional" but the fact that I know I could easily flip open my map and teleport to one of the cities just ruins the experience, especially since there was no real point in going on foot unless you love speed tree forests.

I really hope that the main quest will carry you through the different cities as time goes by.. but of course you should be able to venture to them at any time, but you should need to walk there initially, and there should be lots of interesting stuff along the way. Hopefully most quests are localized, too, so you don't feel the need to fast travel so much. There was just so much arbitrary distance in oblivion.. "Yeah, walk half way across the province to deliver this one note to this one guy," it just doesn't make sense and it's not much fun.


I like the way Fallout 3 did it, there were some large settlements (megaton, rivet city, tennpenny tower, the citadel) but you needed to walk to them first to "learn the fast travel path." Much better system IMO. You should need to walk/ride to each city in Skyrim at least once before you can FT back to it.
