DLC's for FO:NY will be available only thru' STEAM?

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:06 pm

OK, I'm not intending to start another STEAM +/- topic. I just want one of the mods to tell us whether we will be able to get future DLC's for FO:NV only thru' buying them at the STEAM platform or there will be a box version of them?

Not even the mods will know the answer to that right now, as they have no affiliation to Bethesda or Obsidian. But, more likely than not, like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, New Vegas will have a GOTY edition released at some point, and only by getting the GOTY edition will you be able to get the DLCs on a disc. Until then, you'll have to buy them through Steam.

Well DLC does stand for Down Loadable Content, so why would there be a box version of them? AFAIK, the extra content for FO3 was only available in box version through the GOTY edition.

In my country there are box versions of DLC's for FO3, for example - The Pitt and Broken Steel on 1 DVD for a small price.

The simple answer is that we don't know, in fact Bethesda Softworks have not even announced if there will be any DLC for the game. If and when anything is announced it will be all over the forum.

I don't see what the point of a boxed version of dlc would be if the game is on steam.

There was interview where someone said that he saw dlc on the main menu, but of course that is hearsay :sadvaultboy:

We've confirmed that DLC is coming. How they'll be available, and what they will consist of, will be announced at a later date.

I don't think they've confirmed any dlc for Fallout: New York yet.

If they are doing DLC, i would prefer if it was through steam. However i would also prefer if they just did expansions rather than DLC.

There probably will be a GotY edition about a year from now. If the DLC schedule is about the same. At any rate, those things would have to be installed through Steam again anyway.

So the interview statement was "are coming, but are not produced yet." Which would fit since the game had not went gold at that point.

That's actually not true, you could buy them in packs (i.e. you could purchase Broken Steel and Point Lookout together for 360. PLEASE OBSIDIAN/BETHESDA, do this. I don't even care that I will have to pay extra for it. It's worth it. Please make it available to your loyal console gamers who PREORDERED for God's sake!

infact the only FO3 DLC that wasn't available via the add-on packs was mothership Zeta

And I too think it would be good to have any DLC not only be digitally distributed

While the game is on Steam, it's also available in a box (the basic game). And some of the people who buy the box, while installing Steam to register the game, may not want to give them financial info and/or may not want to do large downloads. Those people, would probably tend towards buying "DLC" on disc.

(I know that I got Borderlands DLC on disc, and I'm waiting for a Mass Effect 2 collected edition - I'd rather buy the game again on disc, then have to deal with Bioware's online shop and alternate currency.)
