Mages Guild lore of the Infernal City

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:00 am

I myself won't be reading the book since I'm not much into books in another language....

and since the UESP page is still very small i was wondering many of the lore aspects wich was introduced by the book....

I'm really want to know more about the mages guild part they introduced... The only thing i know is that it split up in two new orders...
but why?
and what's the difference between the two?
what happened to the Arcane University and all of the other bases of the guild?
And was it known who the Arch-Mage was at the moment (like... could the player of Oblivion be still it?)?

And another small question
is anything written about the Fighters Guild?

Sorry if there have been already topics on this... if they are pls give me a link :D

nothing is known about anything you asked. we know the MG dissolved and the Synod and College of Whispers were recognized as official guilds. we know that some MG members continue to lurk in their old guild houses doing magic related things.

It's been over a month since I read the book, but so far there are no answers to your questions. We can assume one mage organization is religious and one is secular. All we know are the names of the two mage organizations, and there's no mention of the Fighters Guild that I can remember. The novel mentions that some elderly mages in Lilmoth are allowed to hang around what used to be their Mage Guild, which means they were young when the Oblivion Crisis occurred.

The Blades are not mentioned. The agents of the Penitus Oculatus (sp) are virtually the same as the Blades -- remember the Blade who worked in plainclothes with you to track down the Mythic Dawn in the IC (in "Oblivion")? The new organization operates like that all the time, having apparently given up all the Akaviri trappings that the Blades had (armor, swords).

The novel mentions that Cloud Ruler Temple still stands, but doesn't say if it's occupied. The character Attrebus went to Bruma as a boy during a hunting trip and saw the temple in the distance.

Hopefully the second novel (second half of one novel, basically) will fill in more gaps.

The term Synod usually relates to a religious organization in the real world, and the Synod is stated to have "conclaves" instead of guild halls. That word also has religious connotations, specifically with Catholocism. So it would appear the Synod is a strengthened, more militarized and more exclusive version of the Imperial Church we saw in Cyrodill. An elderly mage also tells the heroine of the IC novel that one of these priests has rediscovered the Levitation spell, but that she would have to pay their dues for several years to afford to purchase such a spell, so apparently you must pay dues to be a member.

I said it before I know, but I still think it would be awesome for the Synod to be a witchhunter/inquisition type group who hunt daedra worshippers and necromancers and fight fire with fire.
