Upgraded corpse dismemberment

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:33 am

Ever since the announcement of Fallout: New Vegas, I have been wondering more and more, if the way corpses fall apart has been upgraded to be more realistic/precise ? for example.. in fallout 3, when you shoot them in the foot, the whole leg will fall off. I think it would be awesome if it were.. you shoot them in the foot, foot falls off. Shoot them in upper leg, everything below where you shot falls off.

Sooo, If anyone happens to know anything about this, do share!

I would be utterly impressed (but not surprised), if they added partitions to allow a more FO1 style critical death scenes.
I don't expect this though.

I think they said it has been somewhat improved and won't break off entire limbs and such as easily
(Super mutant in a video died from a shot to the head with Plasma Caster and didn't lose his head or any limbs...)

Really shouldn't count on it. The ragdoll system would have to be immensely modified to do that.
Still, with a new engine next time around, who knows? I sure would like to see the gratuitiously chunky SMG death sequence in 3D. ^_^

In some videos I've seen, it has been improved, in one video, that mutant that got blasted by the Plasma Caster got Half of his head blown off, instead of his entire head flying off, with gore and pieces of his brain as well :3
Do hope it applies to the entire gibbing system :3

Seriously doubt Obsidian took the time required to fully implement this as it would require a hell of alot more then to add more Body Part Partitions, the way the game instances body parts broken off would have to be completely re-written as would teh entire section of coding dealing with how partition cascading is handled -> for instance in FO3 its impossible to have two sub partitions and this would require at least 3 subs and a main (Main:Torso, Sub1:Upperarm/Thigh, Sub2: Forearm/Calf and Sub3: Hand/Foot) and that is just for humanoid actors you can not forget 2 headed brahmin 4/6 legged animals and the brain partition the re-write would be epic in scope most likely beyond Obsidians time constraints.

Personally I would loved for them to have implemented multi-partitioning another game I worked on had this so for instance you could partition the entire left side of the body from the right and seperate them while at the same time partitioning the upper body from the lower and seperate them while still being able to seperate each individual body part section legs arms heads...

Still doubtful as even that would require quite a bit of work.

I'd rather have death animations before the rag-doll kicks in instead of instant rag-doll.
Death's could be far more gruesome that way.
