Recommended Mods for mages?

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 6:20 am

I haven't played in a long time. I have Oblivion, Shivering Isles, and all the official DLC.

I want to make a mage character and wonder what mods other mages are using. I don't want a mod that makes the game too easy. I am particularly interested in mods that adds mage type gear like robes, staffs, and jewelry that can be bought at shops or found as drops. And a nice big mage type house (or expansion on Frostcraig) that has lots of display area for stuff I find. And more spells, as long as they are not godly because I don't want the game to be too easy.

Anyways, I don't have as much time to play as I used to so this mage character will be my focus for a long time.

Oh, I know I want to use Mart's Monster Mod so hopefully you can recommend mods that won't conflict with it.

I think this will get more attention in the mods section, so I'll move it. :)

Magic spells: Midas, supreme magicka, fearsome magic, LAME, oblivion magic extender, The Sixth Element - The Sacred Art of Necromagic, Telekenetic Mastery, and Wizards spell book
magic enchant - conduit magic,, AND Advanced magecraft or Enchantment Enhanced,
Magic risk - Fizzle, OR Audacious Magery, OR Sorcerers Toll
magic"combat flow" - chargeable spells, Doc Magic, and hopefully soon duke patricks combat magic II mod (wont need Doc Magic or charge spells).

A magic overhaul and spells unlock as you level/progress, looks very good. Alternative oblivion magic system.

It's been a long time since I played it, but I would say Origin of the Mages Guild... I just looked for it and it seems the modder has taken it and everything TES off his site... he seems to be one of those modders that has a lot of drama with people online... (the last time I encountered the like I was sent a nasty email for a mildly negative comment I made on a message board... several months after the fact... some people take names and can't let go... I don't know much regarding the history in this case of course.)

I'll second http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9562, and you do have to get LAME or Supreme Magicka.

You'd probably also want http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22326 to be able to access more spells via hotkeys. It also has other nice features, such as cycler keys letting you cycle between spells (or items of course) and autocast, which lets you cast a sequence of spells with one hotkey - perfect for buffing up.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26196 is also very nice, esp. when using mods such as Midas Magic, as it gives all MM spells custom icons rather than the default burden icon that scripted spells get otherwise.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24320 Adds lots of things, including tradition wizzard hats and flame effects for your hands. It does re-jig most of the vanilla robes into showy versions more befitting a mage imo as well.

Try and look for clothing mods also, I don't know what your preferences are but I do know in the original game the only non-armor option for your hands is the set of wrist irons you're wearing when you exit the tutorial dungeon.

I always have female chars and really like Sinblood's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11528, not only because it looks awesome but because it has six pieces, which of course is excellent for enchanting.

That is also included in the EyeCandy Compilation that has a whole lot of other high quality multipart clothing/armor too, my Spellsword always uses the Saint armor set

Also, if you consider alchemy to be magic, get http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25226. It improves potion making significantly, you can filter ingredients by their effects, decide the power of the potions (weak effect for long time vs strong effect for short time), and create multiple potions at once.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Is LAME still available? I tried the mirror link for the English download as the instructions say to do but the file doesn't seem to be there anymore. Is there another place to download it?

Less Annoying Magic Experience appears to no longer be available for download from the Nexus. I've downloaded a lot of mods but won't get a chance to play for a few days. I bought the game of the year deluxe edition from Impulse and unfortunately the Script Extender does not work with that so that knocks out some mods from my use.

Oh, if someone has LAME and doesn't mind emailing it to me, my email is elodinr@yahoo.com. Or if you know of an alternate download site that would be great.

My favorite and only home I use for my Mage is Frostcrag Reborn. it makes the place look so much better. Plus you walk away with some pretty awesome treasure.

I found Origin of the Mage's Guild (version 7.3) here:

Nice, I think I will check it out again since I'm thinking about starting a mage character... I wonder how it will work in a TIE + LAME game...

edit~
Eh, I don't know that I want to bother. It requires two too many "resource packs" and I don't like it when armors/weapons/clothes and who knows what else is being added without at least an attempt at explaining in the readme... I can't find one of the resource packs anyways...
