Singleplayer without PSN possible?

Post » Tue Jul 20, 2010 5:25 pm

So I pre-ordered this about 4 days ago for my ps3.

I figured that psn would have there crap together by then and I dont own a xbox and i have a decent pc but Im not sure if it will run as smooth as i want. I also figured that I could still play single player and just have fun with that until the network came back up.. Then I remembered that the game is all about being able to play and upgrade you character during single-player and multi-player which in my mind would almost deff mean you would need to sign into psn at the start of the game so it could log your progression and whatnot.

So my question. Am I even going to be able to play this game past the start menu if psn is not up?

Playstation is dumb. I love them but thew are screwing all these games coming out. They will be lucky if anyone has interest in Socom4 when psn comes back up.

I am pretty sure their is a single player mode that doesn't require an internet connection... and I think you can still get xp......

Without PSN you still have access to "EVERYTHING" that there is in this game except playing with your friends. Instead you will be playing against bots.

But what I meant by everything was that you can play every map and unlock everything offline.

... and when PSN does come back you can play those same maps with your friends online or have your friends and bots together.

I'm pretty sure the save is only on your console and when PSN comes back on it will update your character to be able to be used online freely with all the customization you had in singleplayer. The lack of PSN will not prevent you from playing the game.

Now what I want to know, is if save-files are unlocked. I don't trust PS3 consoles anymore since I've had to go through about 5 in the past couple years, so I'd love to be able to back-up all my characters.

But the problem with that, is that people will be able to distribute save files online, giving people the opportunity to start with everything unlocked. Not exactly game-breaking, but definitely not SD's intention - I wouldn't be surprised if they safeguarded it by locking save files.

yeah this

like with LBP you'll play in Single-Player and once you sign in it'll update to your PSN profile

only difference will be that instead of your character having your PSN ID as his name it'll be whatever playstation account u are in

(which u could just make the same as your PSN ID and youll never know the difference)

Also depends if they're locked to the console, or just to your account - if they're bound to the account, you can backup, and transfer, but ONLY to PS3s that have YOUR PSN account on them. Which means 5 at most.

So could I play with my character on another friends console? Say at a friends house?

I dont have a PS3 but heard some games are actually not able to play without a PSN connection, even single player. Has there been any official word on this or are people just making assumptions?

You should be able to, I heard something about a "cloud saving" feature available to PS+ where you could upload upto 150mb of save data and access it anytime via your account.
