Does 130 Dungeons mean just that?

Post » Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:44 am

It's 120 dungeons.

"Bethesda promise that the game’s dungeons will be much more varied than they were in Oblivion. Where Oblivion had one dungeon designer, Skyrim has eight. The team will be working on keeping Skyrim’s dungeons varied with puzzles and traps, to ensure that “no two areas are alike.” An example of one such dungeon is the Bleak Falls Barrows, which features ancient Nord catacombs carved between huge tree roots and underground rivers. There will be 120 dungeons in total."

Probably said before, but Oblivion actually had only a handful of different dungeons when it comes to layout, meaning that the total of unique dingeons in OB was around 40 or maybe even 50 at tops. I also don't thing taverns and inns will count as part of the 130 dingeons, it will be places like mines, caves, ruins, abandoned forts etc.

All the dungeons was different as in the floor plan was unique, however they had a limited set of design features, where perhaps 40 dungeons had unique features not found in other, this created the repetition.

They are getting their information from here??? http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1165346-oxm-uk-new-info-screens/ Maybe it's a typo (the 120) but Todd Howard mentioned in a podcast 130 so I am more inclined to believe that.

I prefer larger, but cooler, unique dungeons like theyre doing here.

The only thing abotu OB that I liked was that there were so many dungeons that you almost never ran out of new ones to go to. Still, they were all pretty much the same. There were only about 5 dungeons that I repetitively entered because I thought they were unique or had cool features or monsters inside: Arkved's Tower (crazy dream dungeon), Fathis Aren's Tower (daedra and giant fish), Underpall Cave (giant lake), Mehrune's Razor dungeon (interior city structure), etc....

Why would you want more?!

In Oblivion I got sick of the dungeons there! They are all the same and as previously stated: they bump into you, not the opposite (I am not funny. Cave finds you! :D)!

You think that 70 less dungeons would not be enough but heck! I want to see one person that went to all 200 dungeons in Oblivion! For me it felt like there are maybe 10 or 20 different dungeons and not 200 + they all took me 10-20 minutes to complete, so let's say that's in average 50 Hours of gameplay.. So let's say they make it 20-30 minutes to complete, it would be an average of 54.2 Hours, which is even more! so if they make each dungeon have 10 more minutes of exploring/fighting/cool boss fights/mazes etc., we'll enjoy! And even if they make it 15-25 we'll have 7 less hours but BIG DEAL! Believe me that won't matter so much! Also, there are guild quests which I'm sure would be longer and with much variety, random quests and etc. etc.

So all in all it's either we'll have much more hours of exploration or more or less the same, and believe me you are not gonna count how much time you spent in dungeons, and before you show me proof that you visited more than 130 dungeons in Oblivion, I won't be able to understand you and your complaints...

So.. how many dungeons have you visited? ;) If it's less than 130, you shouldn't complain.. Oh and if you did, picture or it never happened :) (You can find it in your character info thing when you press Tab or the equivalent in PS3 and Xbox 360, I think.. if not, please be honest)

That's all I've got to say.

I know Todd Howard said there would be about 130 dungeons. Does that count caves, mines and other things? If it does that is a significantly smaller amount than Oblvion. For instance Oblivion had 50 forts, 50 ruins, roughly 90 caves, 25 mines, 32 camps, 31 settlements, 16 inns and stables and 15 shrines....not to mention the cities.

I am hoping that numbers does not include caves and mines. What do others think?

the 32 camps, 31 settlements 16 inns/stables and the 15 shrines ARE NOT DUNGEONS!!! I want you to actually use your brain when figuring out your argument the next time you put your fingers to the damn keys.

Chill out!? What is with all the hostility? I am well aware they are not dungeons. The point was the amount of content. Since you seem to be so very intelligent where did I actually say that they were dungeons?? I only mentioned what Oblivion had (content wise) I never said they were dungeons. So learn how to actually read a post before you post.

No it doesn't. It says "Places found", and it's typically around 300 (306 in my current game, only 163 days passed, only 65 quests completed, 59 fame and 1 infamy, and only 9 gates shut on a completed main quest - oh, and this is me doing a speed run) by the time I quit the game, often without having touched the main quest. How many of these places are dungeons, I have no idea.

Well, even if it′s only 130 caves, ruins, forts etc., if theyre handcraftes and unique, then it′s really alright.

So is it 120 or 130?

But they will DEFINITELY be more diverse. They have a whole team working on the dungeons this time as apposed to the one person they had in oblivion. In total, i think they had 60 people working on oblivion and they have 100 working on Skyrim. That is if I remember my Todd quotes correctly :)

The mines had the occasional ore node where you could loot gold or silver nuggets, that was about the only difference aside from some very minor tileset changes.

What was up with those anyway? In Morrowind the mines had a lot of workers in them and also guards belonging to the house that owned the mine, which made looting a mine quite a challenge sometimes (of course with MW's AI it mostly wasn't), whereas in Oblivion all the mines I found either had bandits, marauders, vampires or crazy Argonian assassins.

I doubt the 130 number includes things like camps, settlements, inns, etc. Probably just including things like forts, ruins, caves, mines.

Just speculation of course.

This is what I think too.

A camp or an Inn is not really a Dungeon.

130 hand made dungeons is a ton better than 210 copy and paste dungeons of Oblivion.

I had over 265 hours in one "character" play through in Oblivion and I don't think I even entered more than 70 dungeons.

So 130 varied ones that ALL would be worth entering and playing through would for me actually be "more" so to speak and hell of a lot more fun.

130 is good for me. it took me about an average hour of play per "dungeon" due to killing and transporting/selling goods. So thats roughly 130 hours of play time right there without doing anything else.

By 8 people as well. Not just one.

I never thought of this! So this means that there will be some diversity in designing techniques.
