Low FPS on 4850 : Fallout: New Vegas

Hi,

Fallout New Vegas is my first fallout experience.

However i'm experiencing low fps all the time (15-20 fps) on open areas. Inside Buildings its about 40-60 fps.
i Have tryed all the setting, disabled everything but no matter if its on 800x600 low or 1920x1080 ultra high, the fps stills the same.

This is really weird since my computer can run fine most recent games.

PS: i have tryed running the game on windows xp 32 bit and nothing changed.

System Specs.
Core 2 Quad @ 2.3 GHz
1x2GB Ram 800 MHz
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
ATi Radeon 4850 1GB (Catalyst 10.10)

In TaskManager the GPU Activity stays about 20% when running the game and the CPU activity stays about 30%

After knowing that the gtx480 SLI is performing at the same level you will be feeling much much better. lol!
Go get a dx dll fix, you will be fine.

Phenom II Quad 3.0
NVidia GTX 260 with like another Gig or more of Ram
8 GB Duel Channel DDR2

Game stutters and putters and tears. The dx dll fix helped...a bit. Then I downloaded new drivers for the GPU and the the game began to play even worse. Was terrible all weekend. Just recovered the comp to before the driver install and now at least the game is playable with minor stutter spurts. Man..you'd think they'd of finally worked out how to optimize the engine. Aye yie yie.

Try an older version of your Nvidia drivers if you can get it. Might help.

I have the same issue with my 2x 4850s, runnign crossfire but still massive framedrops for no reason,

It's weird, the only differences between OP's setup and mine are I'm using Vista and I have 8 gigs of RAM. Yet I'm not having stuttering problems at all, even at ultra high settings.

There was a recent hotfix for Catalyst (http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU86AMDCat1010cHotfix.aspx) for W7 users, and it specifically mentions support for FNV. Do you have it yet?

I have that doesnt do anything for me (W7 2x 4850, crossfire)
crossfire enabled or disabled doesnt matter, the DLL's dont do anything either

the max ram you can use is 3.25, why don't you guys even bother plug in 8g or 6g ram in it.
Even you flash it and make it read more than 3.25, the stupid windows start to lag like hell after 2-3g of ram usage anyway.

To the original poster, why do you have 2 GB of RAM on a 64-bit computer? A 64bit W7 uses 2 GB of RAM to run it. This Game uses 2GB of RAM to run it smoothly. No wonder why your game is sluggish.

Well considering it runs like crap on my 4890 with Phenom II x4 3.4 Ghz with 4GB ram I'm not surprised it would run like that on that video card. Its got all kinds of stutters and parts where the FPS drops suddenly. The dx dll you can download helps a lot but this game still runs like they didn't do anything to optimize. I know I'll think twice before buying anything from them again until I read reviews that go into how the game runs.

I"m getting 60 FPS (Steadily) with my setup with no .dll fix. Haven't noticed a slow down near NPCs yet with the new ATI drivers.

Someone on these forums, I forget who mentioned this "fix" but in CCC force AA at 4 and AF at 8, turn on triple buffering and enable Vsync (In CCC).
In the game options turn Vsync, AA and AF off.
Turning "Full Scene Reflections" off might be helping a bit too. (It's under the "water" tab)
Except for those changes, I'm running the game on Ultra at 1680 x 1050.
It's been playable for me ever since. I'd like higher frames, but for now I"m content. I think the ATI drivers really helped though.

the fps is stable all the running with everything on ultra on 1920x1080
the game now is perfectly playable.

It does run fairly smooth, and it playable, but it should be like buttah! and its not. Its annoying that it runs better on a 360.
