Search Cut-Scenes, Yes or No?

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:22 pm

In Red Dead Redemption when you skinned an animal it went into a little cut-scene picturing your charecter slicing and dicing away.

I personally loved it and would love to see something similar in Skyrim, if not more cut-scenes, so not just for say skinning animals or searching corpses, but also for things like pick pocketing as well...

I realise that this feature isnt something thats for every body so was also wondering, if there was some how an option to skip this or turn it off in the games settings, would it be more welcome in the game?

I wouldn't mind it if it was optional, so i chose the last option.

A cinematic cut since YES but action cut since will be annoying after 100 hrs of gameplay.

The difference between the two is when you play red dead, youre playing as John. But in Skyrim youre playing as your own unique character. I think having cut scenes like the skinning animals might be okay, but not long talking ones.

Theres a reason they never have your character talk, so it makes it fell more like you are the character in the game, not playing as a character. Kinda like Master Chief never taking off his helmet

No.

Red Dead is a great game, but Skyrim is TES game.... not a Rockstar game.

I'd rather you see the character do it in real time. They've done that with finishing moves so I expect they will with crafting as well, and it will be great!

Same.

The novelty would be great, but after watching my guy reach for the coinpurse on the other guy to loot him enough times, it would eventually become annoying.

If I had to get used to it, I could. I'd rather be able to turn it off when I finally have enough of it though.

My favorite game ever is Half-Life 2 because of its miraculous flow. With first person games, there should no longer be cut scenes. We have the technology to stop taking the player out of the experience to hammer in a story.

Personally I love them, but now that I think about it I think I would have to agree with you that some things are best done in real time... pick pocketing in Olblivion for example was just an Npc's inventory menu poping up on screen, if their going to have the same thing happen in Skyrim I'd like to at least see it look like my charecter is making an effort to take something ie. hand stretching out for coin purse before inventory menu pops up.

Should Skyrim have charecter cut-scenes like in Red Dead Redemption? The cut scenes when you skin an animal was fun at first and it is a nice idea but it got annoying so it would definitely need to be optional.

Have more cut-scenes? ie. pick pocketing etc... Pickpocketing? absolutely not. But perhaps in other areas. But generaly speaking they should probably stay away from it. Cut scenes tend to get annoying very fast. This would probably especialy be true in a 200+ hours game.

Would you rather it all done in real time? Most of it should be but i wouldn't mind a more cinematic approach when it comes to dialogue, while still being completely in control of what your character is gonna say ofcause. Something like Dragon Age: Origins. Sadly that won't happen in Skyrim.

Actually dialogue in Skyrim is more cinematic. The NPC continues doing what they're doing (i.e cooking) while talking to you and time doesn't stop when talking to NPCs.

i hope not. The only problem I had with RDR is that I couldn't turn that [censored] skinning cutscene off.

Never seen RDR's cut-scenes. But if there's anything like them in Skyrim, then they must be done in first person (if you're using first person view, anyway), and not more than a couple seconds max. Oblivion knocking you into 3rd person at the slightest whim was very annoying. Knocked down? 3rd person! Paralyzed? 3rd person! Mounting a horse? 3rd person! Sitting down? 3rd person!

The game will just continue as usual while you talk to NPCs yes that i know and it might just be a matter of interpretation but that wasn't exactly what i meant by cinematic. What i meant was something like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Heavy Rain, Alpha Protocol etc. Cutscenes where the player is involved but only in the dialogue.

I don't know. I have mixed feelings about cut scenes. I already hate the "cut scene" when you sit down, as it switches to that horrible 3rd person mode while doing it. If my character was performing an animation where I could see my body in 1st person, while having mouse control over my head, then sure. But similar to FarCry2 (and possibly RDR, don't know), they should be short anims for immersion, not the real deal. It takes longer to repair a car or skin an animal, but I wouldn't want realism here :P

If 1st person keep that horrible overlay based graphics instead of fully animated 3D arms, combined with fixed animation rather than adaptive to what you try to do, there is no point in adding pickpocketing or opening or knocking on doors either. If I'm close enough for interaction, the E - Activate pops up, I hit the key, and now my arm reaches out using inverse kinematics to perform the animation required by the action, and the door opens or pocket is picket etc.

Would become annoying after awhile. I know it did in RDR and Skyrim is going to be longer. If it was optional sure but i can't see how this would work. Maybe if you pressed a button when it started to happen to skip it but this in itself would be annoying. So no sorry.
