Noticed a few posts about our Frank in favourite composers and weirdest song threads, so I thought the, imho, greatest composer of the twentieth century deserved a thread of his very own ( and an Easter egg in Skyrim, sacred 2 had one ).
Let's start simple with three favourite tracks, mine are :

1. I came from nowhere. ( They can play that at my funeral. )
2. Zombie Woof. ( So much more fun than a cheesy werewolf film any day. )
3. Brown shoes don't make it. ( Huge inspiration for Matt Groening. Without this track, the Simpsons might never have existed. )

Yes I know he could be a difficult, arrogant git, but if I had a tenth of that writing talent, I reckon I would be a bit arrogant too.
Anyone else have love for the giant of is it art / is it entertainment, no it's both, weirdness?

Frank Zappa is one of those names I see a lot but I know absolutely nothing about him and I don't think I've ever listened to his music. Off to YouTube I go...

Love this guy!

One of the truly underrated guitarists of all time, in my opinion. But go out and listen to "Shut up and Play Yer Guitar". It WILL melt your face.

Honestly, I hate Frank Zappa, but I wouldn't necessarily say he's bad. The man was obviously very talented, but I find the majority of his rock music annoying, and the majority of his classical music to be technically capable, but unoriginal. I still like it better than his rock music though, because it doesn't feature his voice in either the literal or figurative sense.

I would again reccomend "Shut up and Play..." as it is a collection of all his finest guitar work without the lyrics or the rest of the songs. The guitar solos are remastered and recorded so that they flow from one song to the next seamlessly. Obviously Zappa isn't for everybody, but if you liked his MUSIC and not the SILLINESS or ABSURDITY that exists in much of his work, then "Shut Up..." could fit the bill.
