Valenwood and Elsweyr

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:24 pm

I was thinking about writing a fan fic, and I planned that eventually the main character would end up going though Elsweyr and Valenwood. I only know some about these provinces from research.

I know that Elsweyr is badlands to the north, and to the south is subtropical jungle. So by subtropical, would this mean sort of like Florida's or Jamaica's climate, am I right?

I know that Valenwood is filled with massive, moving trees that cities are built in. I know nothing of the climate, but I'm thinking tropical.

I'm kinda thinking Valenwood would look like the movie Avatar, like a rainforest. Or like Fern Gully, except not as earthly as Fern Gully since Nirn has so many more bizarre things in it.

Is your character(s) going to travel through both those areas? Are he/she/it raised there?

Not raised, but I'm going to have him travel through the provinces.

You should read Dance in Fire. It has a lot of information on Valenwood.

If you want it to be ES then read ALL the ES books you can find - The Imperial Library is good for that

Otherwise you will not know where people have made mistakes in their descriptions - as happens to all

Elsweyr has an area in the north that is desert - but it does not cover the whole of the north - and the Tenmar forest in the south is said to be tropical (so was Cyrodiil's said to be ;) ) - but ask yourself what there is in between - in Big Cat country? I suspect Savannah

Valenwood is NOT FULL of moving trees. There is one species of GIANT trees that move/d ... the Graht Oaks and they migrated north to south. However the 'king of these' - the City Tree Falinesti - and once if not still capital of Valenwood is rumoured to have ceased to walk ...

you see you need the detail to make it work ... happy reading ^^

To understand the racial tension along that border, and to have a better grasp of either side's grievances, watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPVJtJCgX5E&feature=related.

Wow, where'd you read the walking giant tree thing at on TIL? Which book was it?
lol And watch, if and when Bethesda ever makes a game set in Valenwood, they'll tweak the lore so that the walking trees don't need to walk anymore so they can cop out of having to do all the work of animating them. Same thing happened when they made Cyrodiil; was supposed to be a jungle according to PGE1. Less work less time spent is more company budget saved. tisk tisk

What race is your character by the way?

Is this some Elsweyr propaganda about the war between the two countries?

Those badlands in the north are radioactive. Watch out for that.

Dance in the Fire by Waurghan Jarth has the thing about walking trees ^^

Tweaking the lore - I suspect they already have done - try TIL search.

And a lot of the changes are for what they conceive the consoles to want

If you want something better - mod it :)

Exactly! You modders are what make the games greater.
