Half races

How common are half-races? I only know of one person that is a known half-race, and that's Agronak gro-Malog. Is there any others?

There are no doubt various people of half-race, however as they generally just take the appearence of the mother's race its rather hard to pick them out of a lineup.

Ah, so if the mother was a Dunmer and the father was Imperial, the child would look like a Dunmer? Would there be any differences? (Skin tone, ear shape, etc.)

They might have ever so slightly less pronounced ears or a slightly more human looking skin tone, but you probably wouldn't realize they had such parentage unless they told you.

Or unless they kept doin' it with humans, then after a few generations you'd probably start to notice more prominent changes.

yeah, you probably would. Though I wish there was some way to cross-breed Argonians and Dunmer, but they don't seem like they'd be compatible.

Yeah, I just read that the Bretons were eventually created from mingling with the Aldmer and Nedes. So yeah.

Tamriel is a strange place. In a lot of ways it's a cosmopolitan culture, but even in Cyrodill interracial couples are seen as a bit uncultured. There's some dialogue from Oblivion where an interracial couple is described as "disgraceful." And yet the Legions, the Guilds and even the government seem to be fully integrated. (There's a Dunmer countess and an Altmer chancellor) I don't understand this contradiction very well. It seems odd the devs would choose to have such an integrated society which at the same time apparently frowns on interbreeding. With that out of the way, of course it happens and all the time. The Bretons are the most visible example...but as far as in-game? If it's first generation or even second the person would be entirely indistinguishable from his mother's race. The best example if the Gray Prince, an Orc champion. He looked very much like an Orc, except with slightly more pale skin since his father was an Imperial man. (and a vampire too, although I'm not sure if he fathered Agranak before or after he became one.)

That explains why the gray prince was such a pansy. 'twas the Imperial blood in him. *Shakes head*

Did King Karoodil of Firsthold and Morgiah ever have children? Or are we only talking in game half breeds?

"My mother was a Nord."
"And your father?"
"... Wasn't."

He could just be part Imperial, or maybe even part Redguard, according to the location. (Never read all of the comic though, so I'm not sure where he was born).
@Hairdo: It's another example of Oblivion contradicting itself and just being stupid. I would honestly just ignore it.

I try, but it's a bit jarring. It almost seems as if interracial couples were more accepted in Morrowind than in Cyrodill, which just shouldn't be true.

Ah, I remember the good ol' days back in Daggerfall where every elf had a human mother. Breton women sure did get around, eh? :hubbahubba:
