Some reviews are actually a day before to promote sales, and others are mostly right on the very day it is first released.

But really no need since we have previews, reviews are generally for the public who do not follow and read a games development and such.

Flawed logic there. I play Bejewelled and Farmville, Sims sometimes if I can get my Sim to stop wetting themselves and actually get to the bathroom in time. But I know of and have played the Fallout games, as well as many other games. I've been gaming since 1984, I've played many kinds of games across all genres.

And I'm sure the same can be said for many others who branch out and play games of various genres.

Also, on topic of 'who cares about reviews' I've been anticipated New Vegas since April, believe me, I'm not going to give a damn what people think. New Vegas is GOLD baby. :disguise:

A 'casual' gamer might venture out into other games if they're attracted to other games, like someone who's mostly played Bejewelled might wonder about something else that could be as good, so they see Fallout, wonder, enquire and end up playing it.
Aye, there are many gamers who tend to stick to a comfort zone - shooter and football fans only playing shooters and football games for example and regarding everything else as rubbish. But some do start to branch out, reviews can be useful there, the best kind of reviews being from those who have played the game all the way through and can give a strong view on the game.

Professional reviews tend to lose out there be it due to the wrong kind of reviewer, time limits or a mix of both. I wouldn't trust a reviewer who's heavily promoted a Rockstar game despite that game being little more than a pretty looking slice of boredom to review a game like Fallout which is a completely different game since they would approach it like it's a Rockstar game and find it's more indepth than anything Rockstar makes.
I would trust a reviewer who approaches a game like Fallout with an open mind and a willingness to really know the game, to see the differences it has compared to other games they've played.

I only read/take notice of reviews if i know absolutely nothing at all about a game. I already know and love the Fallout universe so reviews won't faze me - it could bomb in the reviews and I'd still get it.

I find most reviews to be more about the reviewer than about the subject being reviewed.

Also I have played and thouroughly enjoyed games that reviewers hated and have wondered what the fuss is about with games they love. Bottom line, all I want to know from a review is if there are game breaking bugs, or so many glitches or poor gameplay that it interfers with the game. Other than that, I will determine for myself, independent of any review, on whether I like the game or not.

There is quite a bit that can be gleaned from reviews. Major reviews like IGN or Gamespot always give specific reasons why they dislike something (eg. menus, hit detection, graphics, pop in, story line, glitches) if i don't agree with the logic of the reviewer then i have already taken away valuable knowledge. If the reviewer brings up legitimate failings like "It is common for weapon skins to glitch resulting in confusion of which weapon is currently selected" then that is pretty cut and dried.
Also it is very very rare for reviews to come out before release on major hyped games like Fallout, the risk of a bad review is counteractive to all the advertising and publicity they have put out thus far.

I think that unless the review mentioned that FONV deletes your HDD upon installation, I'd still get it... Mebbe even if it did.

Next week sometime. I think IGN got the first F3 review a few days before it came out.

People like ign will have the review a couple days before the release, nut everyone knows about their *honest* reviews.... :thumbsdown:

Ha sorry. I take it back. What I mean is this. For example yesterday I read a bit about Peter Molyneux on the upcoming Fable 3, and he said that according to Microsoft user research, a majority of Fable 2 players understood fewer than half of the features in the game. Therefore they are getting rid of 2D menu's and replacing them with an in game room where you can do everything like go to the dressing room and get served by your butler, walk up to a pedestal that holds your map, etc.

They didn't even understand how to use the menu? So now they're dumbing it down and making us play some mini-game everytime we want to change clothing or check the map really quick? I hate this! I consider myself a casual gamer but when stuff like this happens I know the gaming industry doesn't. Oh, and they might remove XP and the healthbar! This is an outrage!

Well people are getting dumber these days, many just want life to cater to them, to be given everything on a silver platter with next to no effort. Just have to consider how popular shooters are, those games require little to no real skill to do well at, the games pratically hold your hand and reward you if you fail.
Fable 2 was easy to play and get into, it was like a 'My First RPG' and it was a great little game. I've also seen the complaints about people saying it's too complicated, too hard for them to play. How can Fable 2 be too hard to play? It holds your hand most of the time!

Hard work and effort scare those who think life owes them. Life owes no one, life doesn't cater to us. Life never conforms to us, it's us who must conform to life.

Dumbing down to those who can't be bothered to actually learn, grow, make an effort and work towards something only ends up causing long term problems down the road.

I don't read reviews on anything usually. People have way different views of what is good and in todays society, if its not spoon fed its not good so I'll stick with playing the game, we have less than two weeks.

You people are absolutely pathetic. Nothing is more pathetic than watching people rage on "modern society" and how "casual" people are while proclaiming they are so hardcoe that no one understands them.

Do you not remember the acclaim Fallout got? All the Game of the Year Awards? Now you are saying New Vegas will get horrible reviews because people are so "stupid" because they like shooters. Some of the most critically acclaimed games of the last few years have been RPGs and Strategy games. You need to stop railing against the system that you've imagined and realize that you play games for fun just as everyone else does, and the type of game you enjoy doesn't make you any more intelligent or "counter-culture" or whatever the hell reason you have for talking down to the "masses." It's just sad.
