Question about abilities

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:50 pm

Okay, so we have 10 character slots and we dress each [censored] up for security and resistance. I understand all this, but what I'm confused about is that if on that character I spend my skill points on operative skills will I be able to go back later and change them to medic or something? It seems like when we go into a game we are stuck with what ever character we chose. Wouldn't that put me at a disadvantage if I wanted to play something other then operative?

You can change your classes mid-game, but You can not change your actual character mid-game
if you haven't put any of your skill points into medic then you won't be very effective
putting skills into multiple classes give you some good wiggle room for how you want to play

So I only have 20 points to spread across Soldier, Medic, Operative, and Engi?

No matter which class you choose to be at any moment, you'll always have access to the basic necessities for the class - the upgrades make you better at the class you choose to upgrade though.

A lot of players are planning to kit themselves out as only one class. A few of us (myself included) think upgrading 2 classes will be better - MIGHT have moments where we have to switch to non-preferred classes, but we should be able to find some utility on at least one of our chosen classes, whereas a single-spec Medic who's in a game with 3 other single-spec Medics will be a little short on options.

Also, dual-spec characters won't lose as much effectiveness switching between their classes as a single-spec character will when switching from their chosen class to anything else.

You don't HAVE to spread your ability points across all the classes - remember you're part of a team, work with the people you're paired with, and you'll be fine.

Yeah, but sometimes that can be a bit....difficult.

Which is where that first bit comes in - you will ALWAYS have access to EVERYTHING you need to function as ANY class you choose - even at levels 0 - 4 when you have no class-specific abilities (first levels only let you buy universals)

You have the ability to customize your guns as well, methinks.

(no proof, so I might be wrong though)

Don't see that relating to the question you quoted.

You can change weapons at CPs, but you can only customise them between matches or in the menu.

Not 100% on character swap between matches, but you probably can. I'd expect possibly not to be able to when playing campaign mode though.

I can remember seeing something about selling your abilities, and then being able to purchase other ones. Anyone else know about this?

You can drop 1 level to reset everything.

If you're level 8, you go back to 7 but can reassign all your abilities. If you're 20, you can drop back to 19.

Oh ok, I see now. But I swear I could see a button that said
-"Sell ability.
And one that said
-"Sell All Abilities"

Oh, well, that could be the "drop one level" thing.

Oh, hey, just realized... that would be nice for level 20 people who want a bit more out of their characters!
This game seems to be getting more awesome everyday!!!!!

The "Sell ability" buttons got taken out after the video that showed them.

It's been leaked during an interview that your allowed to redo your skill points for any character. There are 20 points that you can spread within the whole field... This is more than filling the entire "every class" section and one of the "class" sections. Does this answer your question?

My thoughts exactly...
I will be upgrading 2 classes, medic and operative...

...the Security shall bring this city to order...

Now get your facts straight.

There are about 10 abilities for each class.

There are almost 60 abilities in total.

There's more than 10 universals.
