Good Will Hunting

Post » Sat Aug 21, 2010 8:25 am

Apologies in advance if this has been done before. If so send me the link.

I was wondering on folks opinions to what could be fitted into skyrim in terms of Hunting. I loved the fighters stronghold in Oblivion which rewarded you with Taxedermy it added a little more immersion into the world. Im not looking to feed fish in a bowl or tap on a glass hamster cage or anything, I just think that fishing and other hunting types could be implimented well into Skyrim.

Now, I'm gonna make a thread about escaping from prison and call it 'Morgan Freeman'!

Sorry, but I just find it funny, because Good Will Hunting, besides the name, could not be linked to the topic in any reasonable way.

EDIT: I voted yes; no.

Fishing is good, something to apart from dungeon crawling, and has a good dose of Zelda nostalgia, but I find the whole idea of taxidermy bizzare, IRL let alone in a game.

I wanna fight sea monsters, wooo! (That's choice number three.)

Concerning the second question, I don't like the idea of such trophies. It's not my type of playing, there's nothing to gain from it in my opinion, and I'd rather get my interior decoration from a store. Of course, going out and doing it yourself is a great alternative, but if I made the game, I'd skip features like that and focus on other stuff first.

However, since jobs are in the game, it'd be cool if you could sell hides and furs to certain shops, and maybe the meat to taverns. Stuff like that. You should get a better price than in Oblivion, though.

I think fishing would be a great idea, but I'm more interested in the second idea.

I think a Hunting/Ranging guild would be a great idea, I have recently started roleplaying a hunter character, and the main problem is that the furs sell for such a small amount of gold that it makes it almost impossible to make any money.
I also think a survival type of skill would be great, and the higher the skill the better stuff you could gather from dead animals, Starting of with only low quality meats, but ending up with good quality meat and better cut furs.

Pass.

It'd doesn't really add much to the game for me. Now adding something that uses my brain, rather than decorating my house, would be good.

Voted yes and yes. but...
*Large* library of fish? Not really, just some variation.
Taxidermy (stuffed animals, yeah had to look it up :)) as a service would be nice, but you can choose to do it yourself as a crafting perk (if it's a skill). Then sell it for greater profit. More work = more yield. I usually go the hunter/huntress way, but always found it bland. It's something you do only for the enjoyment of doing it, no other real reasons except getting venisom.

I voted Yes to fishing, No to taxidermy. I have never been a fan of taxidermy, but I like fishing.

-Yes.
Fishing would be great to have in Skyrim, particularly with the library of location-dependent fish you suggest.

-Yes.
But only if it's optional. I can easily imagine playing characters who would use such a feature, and other characters who wouldn't.

PS: Good Will Hunting is a great film!

The Battlethorn Castle DLC for Oblivion had a taxidermy upgrade in it. I liked it.
Maybe have it so you go to your house, and for upgrades, you can buy mounts for animals of different size (large, medium, and small). Each mount takes up a different amount of space on a wall or in a room (to prevent over crowding). The you go to a taxidermy person and the will ask for a few corpses (like a minotaur will need minotaur horns, trolls need troll fat, etc.) of that animal and the corresponding mount and they will make either a full body or head mount of them. Full bodies need more corpses than a head.
Not the best explanation, sorry.

I think fishing would be hard to implement, and I, personally, wouldn't want to fish.
Unless the fish are giant lake monsters that I can still slash with my sword, it wouldn't matter to me.

Yeah using your prefered weapon to excecute a giant sea beast would be more fun than using a rod for a 2lb hylian loach!

I like the idea of fishing. I love hunting, but not for sport alone. Hunting for me has always been about survival first. Every part of the animal is eaten or used. Skyrim being the cold environment that it is, the hide is better valued as clothing. Taxidermy seems rather pointless to me, unless it is a massive creature. Even then, there is more glory in wearing it's hide than let the thing sit lifeless as a trophy in your home.

yes and yes! I loved it when I got the Battlehorn Castle DLC and I got to get all those statues of the animals I killed. It would be pretty cool if there could be something like that.

I was about to say no, but then I remembered that in WoW and other MMOs sometimes I just go out and fish for no apparent reason, just to relax after a tiring dungeon crawl...

I like the idea if fishing in Skyrim. As for the hunting I would like to take it one step further. I would like to be able to use the furs, hides, etc of animals (and maybe monsters) to create armors and clothing. That would be an awesome feature IMO.
