Game Crashes Same Way as FO3...Here's How

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:34 am

So in Fallout 3, I could start a new game and play roughly 20-30hrs into my character's career without a single crash or hiccup. Finally I will randomly crash (usually outdoors in combat). Not a big deal right? After that first crash, I will continuously crash randomly every so often like a plague that keeps getting worse and worse the more I play. It gets to the point of annoyance where I give up.

So now that I have FNV, I thought the game was superior on the compatibility/crash end of things. This was until I started getting this same problem. 20-30hrs crash free, and now it's like a plague where the game is crashing more and more.

Now on to the technical end of things...

I played Fallout 3 on my older desktop with an Intel C2D E6600, 4GB OCZ RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 260 Core 216 based system.

I play FNV on my new Asus G73 laptop with an i7-720QM, 8GB RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 1GB system.

2 completely different systems, 2 completely different games, 1 massively bugged up coding system.

Thanks for your time.

Q660 Quad 2.4
2 Gb Memory
500 gb hard drive
Nvidia 250 1GB
Windows XP SP3
Direct X 9.0c

Interesting, but with Fallout 3, I had no crashes after the Quad Core Fix (.ini tweak). It ran perfect. Fallout New Vegas, on the other hand, gives me random hard Crashes (Freezes) at least once every 3 to 5 hours (And always outside). The fallout 3 Quad .ini fix does not help in Fallout New Vegas.

As a side note: Interesting that there was never a official fix for Quad Core Users of Fallout 3...

I have the same problem and I believe the Fallout engine Bethesda made has some incompatibility problems with nvidia cards...
some say it's the water method the game uses that makes it crash with nvidia cards, others say it happens only with the new nvidia drivers etc etc
I am certain it crashes because something is going on with the GPU but I don't know what and my computer is fairly new so it can't be a hardware issue.

I've been trying to solve this problem since Fallout 3 and no luck, the game crashes randomly... sometimes after minutes, sometimes after hours.
Can someone give me a possible fix? anything will do.
