Silaii & Guruni

Animal Companions - VERSION 0.95 beta

Panther and Snow Leopard - cats with real* cat's behaviour

DOWNLOAD:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29257

DESCRIPTION:

silaii and guruni are a snow leopard and a panther, two companions for your glory adventures. but unlike other cat companions (and human companions too!) they act more like real* cats then like dogs. they don't follow you at a constant 2 feet distance, don't dumbly stare at you if you stop... waiting for orders... real cats have their own will!

liberation:
you liberate silaii and guruni as young cats from their captivity. the evil breton gulage donquoi holds them in a dirty kennel in an ayleid ruin named culotte (at the niben river), waiting for his customer to sell the cats into slavery.

'following':
they go where they want and when they want. if they like you and you ask politely they may want to accompany you, but they decide for how long. 'following' means for cats: they coincidentally travel in the same direction as you. they wander around when you wait and may also get lost somewhere, especially if they are hungry (> eating and feeding). if you meet an enemy the cats may fight or not (> combat).

'waiting':
if you ask them to wait they will wander around in a larger area but if they are bored they may find you and re-join with you or they may travel to the other cat if she is also wandering around somewhere else. you can't 'put' a wild cat anywhere!
special case: they never wander around or get lost in an oblivion so you can't leave them there! instead you have a menu option so send them outside of the last oblivion gate you used and you should use this before you take a sigil stone.

eating and feeding:
cats need food. you can provide them with food and get a higher disposition. if they are hungry enough and prey is near they will hunt it and eat. they hunt rats, crabs, fish, sheep, cows and calfs, rabbits,... if the prey was a big one they eat until stuffed and sleep then for a while. but be careful: guards may attack hunting cats, so you may want to feed the cats before you get close to a town...
if they get to hungry they get really angry and don't 'follow' you any longer or may even attack you. before they get to hungry they get a red shining effect. if you hold the cats in prison, i.e. any interior cell, they will die soon without food!
if they 'wander around' or the player sleeps they care for themselves.
(from stuffed to really hungry takes 24 hours. you can feed rat, crab, venison or boar.)

combat:
cats are not stupid. they don't enter a battle just because you do. if they decide to fight depends on their hunger and if the other cat is near. if they have low health or the enemy has a more than 3 point higher level they will flee. if the enemy's attack damage is much higher than theirs they will flee. but if the enemy's health is low they may fight though.

levelling up and growing:
the cats level up when the player does and grow by a certain amount that depends on their average feed since the last level up. the attack damage will increase by 1, the health by 5 points. cats can't level higher than 32 which is pretty strong though, but they only grow until they are grownup.

death and resurrection:
cats have 9 lives. you can resurrect them with a blood donation (40 points drain of your endurance for the next 10 hours!). You must wait 24 hours before you can donate blood again. if a cat died she will be more careful and not die again until she levels up.

practicing:
from time to time they practice a little bit, i.e. attack each other but without hurting. this is fun for the most surounding NPCs but guards will attack and chase the cats!

special abilities:
the cats are good swimmers and can breath underwater. the snow leopard has a 100% resistance against frost and a 20% weakness against fire. the panther reflects 20% damage at night or if she is in a dungeon. if you sneak the cats sneak too and become invisible. they won't attack while sneaking so you can take them perfectly with you for stealth action.
fleeing cats are almost invulnerable due to perfect stealth skills.
accompanying cats make you happy and you get 3 points fortify luck and 9% resist deseases as long as one of the cat is 'following' you.
using one of the rings you find in evil gulage's pockets teleports the corresponding cat to you but costs one of her 9 lifes. how evil!

yes, make a clean save.

but you can also just load a saved game when a cat died. the same you would do when your character died. ;)

Interesting mod, I think I may use this for a ranger character or something, good job. :)

As I love cats, I also love this idea. I know I read about it when you previously released a version of them in january or so, but then I never got around to use them
Will try to do so now, though - I truly like how you have set it up with them behaving like cats should be behaving! :)

This is the first "companion" mod I think I'll install. Sounds quite awesome.

Hmm... Vilja often talks about wanting a pet.. do I sense a future update might be forthcoming?

Don't tempt her! That's just eeevil!

Heheh. I was just thinking, "This is why I don't like cats! They're just so fickle and flighty!"

(Awesome mod, btw.)

"Dogs think they are human. Cats know they are Gods". I guess that expression says it all :).

I have been owned by a cat since I was a child. Right now, I belong to two amazing cats, one extremely handsome but not to bright Norweigan Forestcat and an extraordinary smart housecat who can open doors and walk on her back-legs. Not on command, of course... if I want to impress on a friend by trying to make her do so, she'll just look at me as if I was an idiot.

Both of them treat me very kindly, and will often reward me by allowing me to cuddle with them (at least when I have been performing one of the tricks they have taught me, like the 'serve cream and salmon'-trick.

Btw, I made a cat companion mod for Morrowind many years ago. There, you could add dialog to creatures, so in my mod, you could 'read the thoughts' of the cats.
( Cat: Miaauu. ((Yes, what is it? I will graciously accept to listen to you and maybe even do as you say...))
Player: Wait for me right here
Cat:Miaau... ((That's the most outrageous I have ever heard... You'd better not make this a habit, or I will sharpen my claws on your best pants!))
Player: I have ratmeat for you!
Cat:Purr....((How sweet... you have goodies for me? And you want your reward for it? Right, you will have your reward - I will purr to your honor!)))

i'm thinking about making another companion mod with humans who behave like humans...

That would be lovely... Vilja would love a realistic human companion to chat with (I guess calling Neeshka human would insult her, as she is a dunmer).

I take it you haven't played through all her quests yet. ;)

Awesome mod concept! I will definitely have to try this one - a panther would be a great companion for a Warlock! I kinda wish you had an option to just use one of them, though. My gaming laptop is not the newest thing off the market so having a few companions following me around is going to make my FPS suffer a bit, I think.

Maybe having an option to choose 1 of them in a future version would be possible? If not, I understand; I know how cats like to have their feline companions around. After having a pair of cats for about 12-13 years now until one of them died, I know how hard it is to separate a pair of cats. :(

I love the idea of them not doing exactly what you tell them to all the time or at least for long. It's great to see a cat companion mod that displays the usual independence of a real cat. After having or taking care of both cats and dogs over the years, I have long appreciated the independent and self-sufficient nature of cats. Leave an indoor cat with lots of food and water bowls and litter box(es) for a week and go on a trip and when you come back they will likely be just fine. Leave a dog in the same situation and I would be truly fearful of what you may find upon your return. :shakehead: (Of course, I don't recommend anyone to leave any animal alone in their house for extended periods (days) at a time, but just sayin'.) ;)

So, thanks for the great cat mod! I'll definitely be trying out soon! :goodjob:

I'm owned by a Lilac Point Siamese. He's just a year old, but already he has established his desired position in the household hierarchy.

His name is Jester, but his personality is that of Cato Fong from the movie "The Pink Panther"...
"Cato is Inspector Clouseau's house boy, and an expert in martial arts... It is a running joke that he is instructed to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcHboPzgzHk, to keep Clouseau's combat skills and vigilance sharp..."

@Side777: Thanks for the mod, I'm definitely gonna have to check this one out. Your description of a cat's behavior in the OP is dead on!

the first one will be a child ghost who just appears and disappears and doesn't execute commands... and doesn't speak...

I kinda wish you had an option to just use one of them, though.

you can't 'use' a cat anyway!

but... just ask only one cat to follow you. you will see the other cat from time to time though...

Would love to use this. However they'd get slaughtered in my game due to the wildlife. So their nine lives would run out all too fast. And it'd get annoying to re enable all the time.

I'm just not sure they'd be able to flee in time before they got killed in one hit by something. But I'll try anyway. <.<

Okay, well, I've never really been a cat person... but this just sounds too cool to pass up. My Oblivion friends seem so lonely without a companion of some sort.. only one has met Vilja (same with Neeshka), and I still have some slots to fill. So I'll be looking forward to seeing your 'human' companions as well.

(@Emma: No, I haven't yet finished Vilja's quests ... I don't like rushing through anything, especially a mod I enjoy--plus I got a little offtrack with the update and RL. I'll get back to her by the by ... good thing she's a patient lass. :cookie: )

I know that! I was talking about having an option to activating one part of the mod or another as in 2 separate esps, I guess. :P

Okay, I'll try that.

Interesting, maybe my khajiit Spellsword could use a companion in my brand new FCOM install :cold:

And to make it more intersting, maybe i could make them have Pahmar apperance too, Dagon would be trembling in his loincloth when an all khajiit crew comes for him
