I waited 50 hours for this...?

Post » Tue Sep 07, 2010 1:29 am

So after 50 hours of exploring, questing, adventuring, and various other things, I finally decided to see what the Strip was like. I was very disappointed... After seeing something in the Game Informer magazine I pictured it like this... A inside cell location, probably the biggest in the entire game, that was a huge long black road. Lights were on each side of the road and lots of people moving back and forth. On each side of the road were many major casinos, shops, vendors, people, and other things. At night when you visit The Strip would look like a fireworks display with all the color and lights and everything! What does it look like? Two casinos, a bunch of useless people walking around, then another two buildings on the other side ... I hate to say it Obsidian, but this is a blemish on an otherwise mostly sterling game.

What did everyone else think of it?

I wish they would remove the walls that separate the different segments. Other then that I'm fine with it. Freeside is the rest of Vegas.

Well, in the GECK, it looks like that is how it was intended at first. But it is sectioned off probably because of the incredible amount of NPCs and scripted patrols in the cell so it breaks it up into sections so NPCs can be unloaded to save on resources.

There's actually 4 casinos, a NCR Embassy, Vault 21 (hotel), Michael Angelo's shop and probably something else I'm missing.

I did expect it to be all in one area, but I was otherwise not disappointed. And the casinos themselves (especially Ultra-Luxe), are pretty interesting.

I didn't think it was that underwhelming. It is still a pretty big place. Freeside is a part of it afterall, so if you count freeside, there is a ton of quests to do here.

I find the journey to be more fun than some of the places I visit. Found the strip to be actually quite enjoyable and didn't know which one to hit first. The WOW factor was there with the neon lights, signs, structures, etc... and the inside of each place was pretty sweet. Still found it fun dealing with the Omertas and killing their bosses. Only thing I wish is that I had some higher sneak and could have placed some Incendiary frag nades in their pockets.

Oh yeah, the first time I went to the Strip, it was daylight, pretty underwhelming. I made a second character, went there during the night (unintentionally), and it just gave me a much better impression, even though I had already visited it in such a situation. Now I never bother entering the area if it's not dark.

One specific mod, by the name of "Night and Day", which reduces time compression and creates darker nights has greatly improved my immersion, in and out of the Strip.

I wasn't blown away, but i am certainly impressed. I first seen it from the cemetary on the cliff at about 2 am. Beautiful i thought. I entered the strip about the same time a few days later ( real days ). Still impressed. Being sectioned off didnt bother me as much as how much of a pain in the ass it can be to get there. Now i have 3+ presidential suites so I'm quite pleased.

My 3+ presidential suites makes me not worry about the quick loads between sections.

Im the same, have played and got there, and found it to be a massive letdown. But im sure (im a PC player) once the modders get going it will be a lot better! I was hoping for a much lower class version of it, with lots of very bad suff happening ;)

That's the freeside. I'm sure a few years ago (in the story), the strip was a hellhole. Heck, the surrounding areas are pretty chaotic as is. It's nice to have some place to sit back and be more manipulative, less homicidal.

I was referring more to "First Impressions" and the way that it looks. Not necessarily to your view after exploration and stuff.

The strip was ok, heck I could get to the strip in 2 hours or less if I wanted too.

I was definitely a little disappointed. I was expecting something much more expansive.

The biggest thing that turned me off about it, though, was how few people there were. I mean, inside of the casinos, there's this 'people busting about and chatting and stuff' ambient noise in the background, but there's only like...four people. Definitely took away from the experience.

Quess i had expected more from las vegas it self poorly, there's like 4 casinos 1 weapon shop(that i killed with Cass, instead of leting her over.)
so its only wrangler and kings from what i seen by walking around. strip is more upgraded but still tough i was atleast more shops.

But i love the game either way Mods + Explosive is enjoying enough or what ya think? :disguise:

I was immensely disappointed in it. When I first neared the entrance, I thought to myself "I better see it during the day first so I'm not tricked by how nice it looks at night," and once I entered it and saw that it was just 3 teeny-tiny cells, and 2 out of the 3 only contained a measly two buildings each, I was so disappointed I almost started laughing at just how much of a failure it was. I think the best example of how depressingly bad it is are the hokers dancing in front of Gammorah. Not only are the animations awful, but you can't help but wonder who the hell they're dancing for. They must cry themselves to sleep every night...

If you remove the walls separating each cell in the GECK, everything in each cell loads fine except all of the people. And without all the people and without the walls, New Vegas runs perfectly fine (on my computer at least). Believe it or not but there are actually a hell of a lot of people on the Strip. Something I did in the GECK was move everybody on the Strip who was outside onto the street, so that it was the only place people were. I never tested it in the game but in the GECK it shows you that there are a lot more people than it appears at first glace. I think Obsidian was just really bad at populating the strip properly. If they simply rearranged where the buildings were and where the people are it, even without adding anything else it would feel a lot better.

I found it cool. Compared to Fallout 3 this blows anything I saw in it away. The only thing that compared in FO3 for me was the big huge robot. There is plenty of time for DLC so who knows where that could take the game even further. I think expecting some huge strip like it is today is just stupid. This game engine couldn't handle that and they sectioned it off so that the audience that could actually play this was larger( a la slow machines can play 2) thats called trying to make as much money as possible because if it doesn't then there will be no future for the series.

I was disapointed that the strio was cut into three segments and how small they were. Also the small amount of people around didnt improve the impression. It could have been so good , meh.

"It was ok..." = Meh

I also expected it to be connected and with alot more lighting.. The Tops and the Hotel area look better but still should be connected to the other sections.

imo I only had two real issues, and that was how there werent many npcs, its the centre of vegas, the best place, yet the casinos, and the stip sem under populated. Also I think it was a bit small and lacked hings, it was just casinos, needs more vendors, fancy homes, etc. Because as soon as your banned the strip, the main hb, is just eye candy. It looks amazing in the night though, especially the lucky 38. Shame vault 21 was filled with concrete too. That was lame.
