All of Your Weapons/Equipment Visible During 3rd Person?

Post » Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:49 pm

Do you think having all or some of the weapons you possess in your inventory, or have hotkeyed, appearing on your character in some way when in third person should/will be included in Skyrim? Like if you have a cloak and clothing equipped as well as a quiver of arrows and shield, with perhaps a sword a dagger and a bow hotkeyed, will we be able to see your dagger strapped to your boot (or on the sword belt on the opposite hip from your sword) at the same time as your shield and quiver and maybe your unstrung bow are resting on your back, while your sword sits in its scabbard on your sword belt? Could be done with many different equipment combinations other than this one, of course. I'd love to see that your character looks like they've actually prepared to go out adventuring, and have all this stuff strapped to their accustomed spot on your body. Obviously they can't do this with everything, you're not going to have six swords appear on you if you have six swords hotkeyed, but it'd be great to see your items not just disappear from off of you when you equip something else. Will something like this be in Skyrim?

Would be a nice cosmetic detail, but I think that it would conflict too much with the inventory system (given that it was like it's done every other ES game). I, personally, would actually enjoy a more realistic inventory system, but I don't think it would happen. I think it will just be your equipped items that will show, like it was in Oblivion.

Considering that we'll probably only have one equipped weapon slot but the ability to carry dozens of weapons, and the consoles don't have a hotbar/keys but the quick menu where you can have as many items as you want, with this setup it would be pretty much impossible determining what should be shown.

you can probably carry more than 7-8 axes, swords, shields etc in later lvls . . . it would look stupid as hell

I'm afraid I can't really see this working with the inventory system. Maybe if the game worked like in some games where you can have weapons equipped in specific slots that could be accessed via hotkeys, but I don't think Skyrim will work that way. You'd probably need to have slots only usable for certain types of items as certain weapons might look awkward if used in specific slots, and I don't see that happening in Skyrim.

I think its a great idea! I'd love to see it in game! I think they said something about quick selection hot keys, which would probably have a max of 8 slots (thinking of how it would be implemented on consoles. Maybe the things on you hot keys could be seen in third person, this would overcome any issues over how much you had in your inventory.

Only in a slot based inventory system, but still not as important to me as being able to see self in *1st* person combined with ability to look wherever you want except only where yo go (freelook, now only available through 3rd person cam).

it'd be aweesome, it would be cool, but its one of those final details of the game as in "finishing touch" something that i wouldn't want bethesda to bother focusing on until the game is in beta. or.. or... or.. modders rock!

Consoles have hotkeys mapped to the D-pad.

Not anymore. The up direction on the d-pad opens the quick-menu where you can bind your favorites and quickly access them. What the other directions do I don't know but i don't think they'll be using the secondary directions on the d-pad due to iffy control, leaving only three buttons over.

Maybe alongside the inventory there should be an "equiped" page where you can select what is in your right hand, what is on you back, ects.

Haven't they confirmed that they are not going to have hotkeys? I think they said that there was going to be a menu where you can add as many weapon combinations as you want.

Interesting idea, but no because it would make me look like a caravan on legs.

Clipping. Bad for immersion, guys. We can't have that, can we?

I said of course you wouldn't have six swords hanging off of you, for those that mentioned having swords appear all over you and a bunch of claymores coming out of your backpack... I was hoping more along the lines of one slot for each type of weapon or piece of equipment you have hotkeyed (one for a sword or one handed axe or mace, one for a dagger on your boot or opposite hip, your quiver, shield, bow, or a staff if you are a mage on your back, in addition to your clothing and cloak or whatever). But if there are in fact no hot keys then that would put a bit of a damper on this. Maybe have a visible equipment page in your inventory section as I believe someone posted. But I agree that I'd hate to have my character look like he's packed for a caravan. It would have to be done within reason, but I still would like to see that my character at least looks like he's got the tools on him to go adventuring, even if it's just slightly more than how you looked in oblivion where you only had your clothing and quiver and then whatever you had immediately equipped. Maybe for a stealth based character you just have a quiver and bow on your back along with your dual wield daggers on your hips and a throwing knife belt (if there are throwing weapons) from your shoulder to hip. Nothing too crazy though.

Indeed, everything we carry should not be visible, but it would be cool if you could choose what you want to be shown, with a limitation of course. Sort of adding it as another layer of clothing. However the different types of items I'd want to see in 3rd person are very limited, I can only come up with 4 different types, alchemy bottles, scrolls, repair hammers and a coin pouch. it would be a cool add, but hardly worth it in the end anyways.
