Martial Arts, anyone?

So I know a lot of people probably won't care for this post much, since most people don't even bother with H2H on Elder Scrolls. (Hell I'm making the post and I've only ever had one or two H2H characters myself.) My question is, does anybody know if there will still be Hand to Hand in Skyrim? I know they took out three of the skills from Oblivion and changed a lot of the remaining skills, and I was wondering if they were going to take out H2H.

And if they do decide to keep hand to hand, does anybody know if they will give any extra incentives to use it? I mean like how they're going to make daggers a lot more useful to Assassins (i.e. a one hit kill with an associated animation with a close up sneak attack). Things like certain gloves or gauntlets you can use, like the TES version of brass knuckles. I mean they had them on Fallout, why not on Skyrim? Maybe some perks pertaining to hand to hand, spice up the animations a bit, make the players fists a little more efficient of killing machines..things like that.

They had brass knuckles in fallout 3 because brass knuckles were in Fallout 1 and 2, bethesda was just continuing the trend.

I think (ideally) hand to hand should start out as basic punching.. mostly useless, but if you advance the skill higher, you can unlock better techniques such as disarming attacks, throw-downs, and some good kicks to dislodge people's faces. really I hope thats the main focus of unarmed would be to fatigue, disarm, and then give them a nice hard kick to the face and watch them fall flat on their [censored], would be very satisfying when fighting single opponents. I wouldn't mind seeing some bladed gauntlets or spiked boots, but I don't think that stuff was ever history relevant at any point (as are most weapons in TES) so it would probably seem out of place.

I hope it is in because I don't want to swing my sword and then have my sword break and be like oh nooo!!! I would rather brake my sword and then open palm my attacker in the face. :toughninja:

I sure hope they keep it. It provided me a nice challenge. Plus it would be cool if one of the stealth kills was breaking somebody's neck :toughninja:

I'm with this, I like that Akaviri Kung-Fu style (joke).

I've even started a few threads asking for hand to hand weapons (basicly fist weapons) in Skyrim, and that generally gets good responses.

well, i'm ok with some skills are more powerful/worth invest than others, but there shouldn't be any completely useless skills, h2h was useless and i want Bethesda do something to improve it. Maybe borrow some ideas from D&D? We can have some perk in h2h tree like D&D monks' deflect arrows, Ki srike, stunning fist, quivering palm,etc............

how about instead there is a new skill called Martial Arts that replaces hand to hand, and it basically is for martial arts type combat, which includes hand to hand, quarterstaff, num-chuck, ect. :foodndrink:

I would rather be able to continue fighting with my broken sword. Indoril didn't switch to hand-to-hand when fighting Sauron in LotR.

That's because he didn't level it up enough.

I really hope it's in. Some of the most fun I had was with H2H characters, and with the new combat system we could get some sweet finishers. Neck breaking, nose bone jammed into brain, you know, the classics. Also arm breaking disarms would be sweet, but unlikely.

Hand-to-Hand was never ideal unless you were literally facing a single target.

I'm hoping that at the very least you can choose a perk that acts as an ability that literally makes your strikes lethal (when you select it...like equipping a sword). Because beating someone til their stamina dropped all the way just to hurt them was kinda lame.

I don't think they can actually cut unarmed combat, so I guess they just have to make it better. The way to make H2H a viable combat form is simple. Add weapons. unarmed worked well in the fallout games for that reason alone. Weapons are a key part of balance and they are fun to get as loot.

There are alternative non-weapon ways that can be used for H2H combat without ruining a feel of being a completely unarmed fighter (witch rocks).

I'm just praying that they make H2H an ACTUAL martial arts type of combat. I go through Morrowind and Oblivion, trying to create a Jet Li/Chuck Norris type of character, and all I do is throw around some g** looking punches?

I wanna see my feet knock someone's face off of their skull!

Another problem I have is that regardless of your players physical stature, everyone has the same length of reach. When a Wood Elf has the same arm reach as a Nord... there's something wrong with that in my eyes.

If Bethesda can fix or even slightly tweak these things, then I may just play more H2H based characters. As it stands right now, H2H just eats up room on my skill lists and rarely ever gets used.

Peace out.

I had this idea last year.

Because developers can only make so much animation and put so much work into things I felt magic and melee combat animation and execution of a move/spell should be combined, thus if you learn the melee system to throw a punch you also learn the magic system to throw a fire ball.

Get away from the silly wand/staff casting 'gun' system. I have always felt magic coming out of a staff like a gun was dumb dumb dumb. It looks bad, it makes magic boring, and to be honest it is lazy.
