Believe it or not PSN is going to back up, and you can play offline.

Simply said, simply correct.

That IGN article is bunk. Nowhere in the latest updates from the Playstation blog, does it state anything about May 31st. All these websites are just trying to get more web traffic.
There will be lost sales of Brink for PS3 and all other PS3 games in general. Now if Brink gets some good reviews that could change, and people who where going to buy other games, or been putting off buying games at all will snag it up. Also are there any other big FPS games coming out in the next month or two?? The only other game I hear anyone discuss at all is L.A Noire. The Network will be up week and half tops, for game playing. Brink will be fine on PS3, another week and people will be killing to play this.

C/NET is also guilty of trying to squeeze out some limelight by dropping bogus articles stating exclusive communication with the hackers responsible for the system breach. . .

I dont think it is a stupid idea, to hold of on the release date. This game is a brand new game, it is not Call of Duty which would mean it would have a large following. This game needs to sell well and be successful so that the Developers can profit and hopefull come out with a sequel. A game that is basically made for online gaming will not sell at all on the Playstation right now, I have spoken with several people who said they were planning on getting Brink but now they are just going to get LA Noire. Of course this is due to the fact that a majority of people would prefer to play this game online. I had this game preordered but cancelled my preorder because of the PSN being down. I am a huge fan of what I have seen of this game, I am in no way bashing the game. I just believe that Splash Damage needs to make sure and release this game at the right time, so they can make a large profit, especially with the effort that has went into developing a game of this magnitude.

Brink will suffer because of the PSN to me that is obvious and there are a few articles I have read speaking of this exact thing.

So the 80% of people who preordered on PC or Xbox 360 should ALSO suffer because Sony's online is garbage? LOL No thx bro. How about pick it up and play single-player to advance your character so when PSN comes back up you're not behind? Or just wait to pick the game up when PSN does come back on. Or get a decent PC or 360.

All delaying the release date would do is perturb ALL gamers, when as of now only PS3 gamers are angry...how would this improve anything. And you don't need to worry about the sales. I live in an incredibly small town with a population of under 500, and the local Gamestop had 200 preorders for it, so it will sell just fine even if you refuse to buy it because PSN is down.

Its really kind fo sad that people cant wait a week ro two so they can game online. You cant wait a week to play Brink so your saying they should push it back, just buy the game, adn play online when PSN comes back, thats what I am doing.

Right on, if it is not on the PS blog, it is not true or confirmed. The PS blog is the only place you need to look for info on whenever online play is going to be happening. Everyone else is phishing for web traffic and is spreading rumors or another websites rumors.

Playstation Network being down doesn't affect Brink's release in any way.

Also, as someone just had to mention switching consoles in this thread.. One has to be either immature or just naive when choosing to do so.
You know, gentlemen, patience is a virtue.

Actually I disagree to some extent . This may very well effect sells. How much, remains to be seen.

Im not flaming 360 in any way, shape or form, but the fact that people are trading in their PS3's and purchasing a completely brand new system, (considering the fact that people bought new or used conoles) not to mention that you have to pay for Microsoft's service, they are wasting even MORE money, time, and energy. Then when PS3 comes back and offers nick nacks for FREE and GAMES, they will once again either trade their 360 or REPURCHASE PS3's all over again, it's a vicious circle. Long shot in a barrel JUST BE PATIENT. :shifty:

I own and play both systems, and can honestly say that Xbox Live is worth the extra $5 a month. Luckily I didn't have my credit card info on PSN, but with XBL I don't need to worry about hackers getting my info. $5 to be able to talk to my friends and keep my info secure seems like a bargain. I would never buy a multiplayer game on PS3 if it was offered on 360, just because multiplayer is what the 360 does well. The PS3 has some great exclusives going for it (like the God of War series), but that is about all I use it for.

There's one game that this might boost sells for the PS3 and that's La Noir.

By the time the PSN is back up Infamous will be out for the PS3 or very close to coming out. Lets face it PSN could potentially be done for months, no one really knows. Therefore by the time PSN gets back up LA Noire and Infamous may be out and then people could be so tied up into those games that Brink is a forgotten past time. I hope this doesnt happen, I truly hope this game succeeds on all systems. I dont see how anyone can truly say that the PSN being down will in no way hurt the sales of this game. Its pretty common sense. IF you cant play online and most people buy FPS for the online play, and may not be able to play online for months (since Sony isnt giving us any guranteed dates, I believe because they know PSN is going to be down for a very long time, and dont want to see customer bail) then the sales of this game will suffer, it is just common sense.

not to mention, it will only effect sales on ps3, the game will sell just fine on xbox and pc trust me. Doubt it will be the ebst selling game of the year or anything but still, i dont think thats really waht they are going for. With skyrim and rage coming out from just this publisher, they have plenty of other big hitters. honestly, if your hypothesis is at all correct, you should probably just sell your ps3 cuz no one is ever going to be playing again and all the devs have stopped making games for it forever :). could just wait til may 31 too........ when psn is supposed to be back up. Or sell your ps3 and get an xbox, its much better anyways, especially for online shooters. Its not like Brink is Cod and is expecting millions of copies gone in first day sales. Its a new IP and its going to do well because the game is fantastic (hopefully, even i preorderd, i never preorder). Its not so much that Brink is getn fd over by sony, its sony is fn over everybody. who wants to play socom offline? no mp for mk? If i owned a ps3, i would have sold it already, thank god I picked xbox.

OMG fan boy much? Wow, this is the reason why gamers fight against one another " I own an Xbox, I'm god!" "I own a PS3, you and your [censored]box can go get fcked(excuse language)" "I own a PC, screw u and your unupgradable toaster". You fan boys act like a bunch of damn children....

Love how fan boy is changed to really devoted fan :D

And your solution to delay the release date of Brink makes no sense. SD needs to appeal to a majority of their consumers, not a minority. Simple economics. Besides, like you just said, Infamous will be coming out soon, so if they DID delay the game, they'd have to compete with Infamous, which would still lower sales. Delaying the game is a lose-lose at this point.

The folks here said it right, Blame Sony. Honestly, the only reason I havent switched to an Xbox after a month of downtime with literally near ZERO communication to its users is because $5/month for the internet I already pay for is not worth a nearly identical system.

As a side note, the projection sales for Sony, I feel, really are lower with PSN being down. I know I skipped on almost every game released for PS3 during the downtime and instead opt'd for MMORPG's and Morrowind.

Surely the OP knows by now that he can rank up offline with/against bots (which is a brilliant feature btw) so the balls in his court. Only the less informed are unaware of this fact and If that is not good enough for him and he is too impatient to wait for PSN to come up then his loss.
