Who thinks...

Now, i don't know if there has been another topic like this, lock me, hang me in a tree, burn me at the stake or whatever for not finding something in the search engine but here it go's: Bring back the original Dunmer voice! We all heard that Jeff is still alive because of point lookout (tell me you didn't smile when you heard Desmond's vocie) so for all that is holy, make the Dunmer sound cool again! Sure, they sounded like chain smokers but it was their voice, so bring it back.

No hanging or burning needed, I hope, but there was a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1170907-bring-jeff-baker-back-for-the-dunmer-voice/ thread recently.

I was a fan of the old dunmer voice. I'm currently playing through Morrowind now and I just like it.

They had raspy voices because of living near Red Mountain and all the ash storms. Even though I liked that voice, they don't live near Red Mountain anymore and the ash storms haven't been around for 200+ years. So, it wouldn't really make sense unless older Dunmer who also happened to be native from Morrowind and survived the Red Year had raspy voices. Other Dunmer should not.

Nope... Azura cursed them... "Orthodox history holds that the Daedra Azura (the Goddess of Dusk and Dawn and an ally of Nerevar), became angry and punished the entire Chimer race for letting such a disgrace happen and turned their skin as black as the Ashlands and their eyes as red as their hearts. However, some scholars suggest that this is merely a fable. Three of the favored expletives used by the Dunmer are "fetcher", "n'wah", and "s'wit"." -UESP... link: http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dunmer

The old voices of the Dunmer matched their personality I thought, depressed, angry and also a bit rough on the edges whereas the flamboyant and jolly voice was just horrible.lol Besides, the phrase "You N'wah!" Can only sound cool in the old Morrowind Voice.

That doesn't change the fact that it was cool and that at least something similar should return.

The curse only affects their skin and eyes. It doesn't affect their voices.

As much as I love the raspy voice, Outlander is right. We've gotta keep to the canon. However, they should still bring back Jeff Baker to voice a Vvardenfell Wizard; then it'd work great and sound awesome.

I think you gravely misunderstood. No one is talking about their appearance. This thread is about their voice. Lungs. Vocal Chords.

I'm not sure I understand the "they lived near Red Mountain" explanation.

What about all the other people of other races in Vvardenfell? Presumably some of those people had been there for as long as some of the Dunmer had? In which case, the ash storms should have had some effect on their voices as well...

I know... that page just missed that detail... Azura cursed 'em with raspy voices, red eyes, and black-grey skin...

Aye i agree, bring back the male dunmer voice.. .all the other voices tho... can't say :/ i mean... voices in morrowind overall and in general were so much better and more fitting than in oblivion at some times. but don't bring back whatshisname who spoke for the emperor. i lost all impression of him when he voice acted in the most horribly voice acted game i have ever seen or even attempted to play. (Two Worlds 2) hes baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad overrated!!!!

This has never been stated as fact or canon, its simply a theory as to why Dunmer in oblivion had such poor voices.

Other races on Vvardenfell who had been living there did not have their voices affected in any way, and the Dunmer in Mournhold also had the raspy voices, i think a more likely reason for the voices being identical to high elves in oblivion was simpy time constraints, with no lore related reason what so ever.

I must agree.compared to the jolly and indeed flamboyant sounding dunmer of Oblivion i vastly prefer the Morrowind version.
But on that matter,i'm a firm believer that all voices need a workover.
At the very least make some noticable differences between races.

I don't know where this theory originated from but it has a lot of flaws..

A ) Female Dunmer doesn't have raspy voices on Vvardenfell, nor do they have them on the mainland, or in Cyrodiil.

B ) Male Dunmer on the Morrowind mainland (Mournhold) far from Vvardenfell and the Red Mountain had raspy voices too (well there was one certain ash storm). Dram in Hammerfell had the same voice as well.

Oblivion just had the same three people doing all the voices and none of them sounds like Jeff Baker.

I don't like that raspy voice at all its to dumb the dunmer should get a new voice or oblivions at at least implement custom voices.
