Pre-order bonuses...

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:28 pm

I don't know whether this has already been cleared up, but i was listening to the latest Bethesda podcast where the producer guy said the pre-order bonuses are added to your inventory as soon as you use the code.
What i was wondering about this was does this mean that our pre-order stuff can only be used on the one playthrough/file?
I know in Fallout 3 the DLC kicks in as soon as you leave the vault, would this mean that in future playthroughs the 'packs' (in my case the caravan pack) would start in your characters inventory/when you finish the intro with the doctor or is it a one character thing?

I didn't listen to the podcast but perhaps he was reffering to what happens if you add the code AFTER creating a character rather then already having the code added then making a new character.

I seriously doubt the codes are one character only.

Once it is downloaded, you have it... meaning you can use it indefinitely.

Imagine deleting your first save (which has the pre-order bonus) - and losing your pre-order bonus in the process...

Seems very unlikely, don't you agree?

Anyway, happy hunting... just a few more days.

When you download and install the pre-order DLC, it will become part of the 'Fallout:New Vegas' install/game cache data on your PS3's/360's/PC's hard drive, meaning that it is there forever and you can use it for every playthrough.

Though, since it is technically classed as downloaded content, it may become a whole new game data of it's own called 'Fallout:New Vegas DLC'. This still means you can use it indefintely.

I've never used a pre-order before, are you saying when I get the code with my CE it will download and install like a DLC and I have to "load" it in the Data Files bit of the launcher?

I understand what you're saying, he did basically only say that wherever you are in-game as soon as you use the code the items are added to your inventory.

It does seem unlikely that it's only for one file, i agree, but i was just wondering how future playthroughs would obtain to pre-order content?

Presumably you just start with it then.

I have not seen the Pre-Order DLC, but I would imagine it is just a code that unlocks the inventory items in the game, then runs a script to put it in your character's inventory. Or, there could be an ingame mechanism where the Doc says here is some stuff for you and points to a container for you to open. I don't know.

However it is given to you in the game after you enter the code, the Pre-order bonus will be availible each time you start a new game.

They have called it dlc so yes it is a dlc so you actualy download it somehow. What they say is as soon as you activate the code and thus the dlc you will get the new items the instant you load a character OR the instant you start a new one.

Given how the TES/F3 engine works, you'll likely download a small .esp file for it, which enables the respective pre-order bonus in the game and adds those items to your inventory when you load a character or start a new game after that. Once for each character.

hey, that was my question they read off, as well as a couple of others :D... which was pretty cool by the way to hear the guys answer "my" questions... but, i didn't want to start a new topic for this minor question of mine and it does pertain to the pre-ordered items so, i thought i'd ask in this thread...

i pre-ordered the collector's edition with walmart.com so i could get the caravan pack... but, their website no longer lists the collector's edition... am i still getting that?? did they just run out of them and removed it from the website? or are they no longer selling the collector's edition and they're going to refund my purchase?? i would like an answer soon since there's only a short couple of weeks left before release... and if i need to re-pre-order it then i need to know now...

thanks in advance...

if that's what you ordered, that's what you'll get. If not, threaten the legals on them.

The pre-order items are, strictly speaking, a limited edition DLC. As long as you don't delete the *limitededitioncaravanset* bits out of the New Vegas directory, they will load every time you start a new game. Just like any mod.

I don't even want to use my pre-order bonus junk on my first playthrough; I'd rather play it the way it's meant to be for more of a challenge. And yea like everyone said it's indefinite you'll always be able to load those items onto all of your characters.

I'm pretty sure that if you completed your order and got the confirmation email (or whatever they do there) then you're still getting your CE from Wal-Mart. They just removed the CE because they've run out of them and won't be selling any more. Now I have to go to Amazon...

My question is this, will the items be in the game already and the code just unlocks them for regular play and if i open up the console, so i can get the other ones, that i did not get or well the code download the items to me and only the items that the code unlocks.

erm... not sure. I suspect that when you register with Steam, and enter the code, it downloads the extra bits you have the code for. I don't think they will be "hackable" by messing with the Geck - unless, of course, all the pre-order items are already in the game anyway. In which case, the code will just stick them in your inventory.

I am sure there will be a mod that comes out rather early that has all the Pre-Order Items in it. As they are just normal items with some adjustments. Perhaps it will be done the way it should have been all along. As in, you get to pick the package you want when the game begins.

I believe the pre order code is just like DLC. It loads up when the game actually begins.

that's what i figured happened... they ran out of them so they removed it from the website... however, bestbuy.com ran out their mercenary pack CE's but, they still advertise that more is coming soon... so, that's what had me worried about the walmart.com one because they flat out took it off the website...

i do have a confirmation email saved though so, i guess i am still getting the CE... it just worried me to see they took it down, the only ones to take it down from their website of the 4 offering pre-ordered items... so either they didn't have many to begin with, or the caravan pack is a HOT SELLER and everyone wants the best pre-ordered item pack... i mean come on, nothing tops the caravan pack :D...
