The Great Houses

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 11:13 pm

So there are 6 or 7 Great houses? I know,House Dagoth was mostly destroyed during the Battle at Red Mountain, but now I find out there are still 2 other houses.

Hlaalu

The oppurtunist house, loyal to Imperial law and the old Dunmer slave owning traditions. They focus more on power, control, and money.

Telvanni

The wizards of old. Self-cenetered spell weavers who's main focus is knowing all there is to know about the mundane. Mushroom inhabitants who are anti-social and aren't too fond of the Redoran.(Slave abolitionist)

Redoran

Proud, respectful, and honorable warriors. I call them shell-dwellers with nothing more than care in their hearts and wisdom to preach. They're against slavery in Morrowind and are currently in a state of termoil. They're also at war with Skyrim.(I think)

Dres

This is where I'm lost. I don't know a damn thing about House Dres

Indoril

I just realized (found out) that the Temple was actually a House. They're loyalty lies only to themselves and Indoril Nerevarine(and Lord Vivec). They're anti-Imperial rule leads them to dispise (my own thoughts) the Hlaalu.(Imperial huggers.)

Dagoth

The old and dead house loyal only to Dagoth Ur. The defeat of him on Red Mountain leads to the destruction of the 6th house.

Now, I've seen somewhere (I believe) that there are actually seven Great Houses. Is that true? If so, what's the house called, where's it located, and what's they're following?(Beliefs)

(As for above, is everything I put accurate for the most part?)

House Dwemer is the other house. Granted, its not technically a Chimer/Dunmer Great House, but it is politically...
-"A rebel house, House Dwemer, joined with Nord and Orc clans to invade northern Morrowind."--Savants
-"General slaughter followed, and Houses Dwemer and Dagoth were exterminated."--Ward of the First Council
-"In that time, House Dwemer were great enchanters,"--The Real Nerevar
-"May refer to the impiety of the god-mocking House Dwemer,"--The Seven Curses

And Redoran doesn't hate slavery, nor are they abolitionists, they just simple don't like to use slaves, and very few of them have any. If you talk to a Redoran, they'll openly say they don't have slaves, nor do they want to own them, but they don't want the imperials to take that right away, because it goes against dunmer tradition, or something like that. If Vivec (or any of the tribunal) were to say "I don't want slavery anymore." then they'd aid in abolitionists and such. They also don't like fighting guerrilla style, preferring open battles, and they don't really like the Imperial's rule over the land.

Dres is very heavy in the slave trade, often sending raiders to capture the beast races and force them into slavery. In addition, their economy highly depends on slavery, they still practice ancestor worship along with daedric too (I think). I'd say they comprise more of guerrilla warfare warriors and slave masters.

Lastly, Indoril is loyal to all of the tribunal, but most likely more with Alamenxia, due to her being Nerevar's wife, and they're not the temple, they are just EXTREMELY tied to the temple.

Also, while you did note the telvanni are antisocial, they also just don't really like anyone in general, not just Redoran.

Correction: WERE heavy in the slave trade. They happily gave it up in Oblivion for Helseth, remember? They want to get back into the times, while House Redorn and House Indoril (many of which commited suicide when the Armistice passed) are waning.

I would say the Redorans are more the center-right party of morrowind. The Dres still worship thet Daedra, even more than the tribunal and are the most conservative, followed by the Indoril, then Redoran, then the isolationist Telvanni, not so much politically liberal or conservative, followed by the only leftist house in Morrowind, Hlaalu.

Yeah I know, but I still don't trust Dres. If at anything, they're just going to change slaves to debt slaves. Basically, the slaves may be 'free', but they won't be free financially, and won't be till they die. I find it too naive to believe a house to suddenly change from a complete slave driven economy into the opposite.

Indoril is much more traditional than Dres, especially now.

House Dres, if you paid attention in Oblivion, is trying to get with the times.

House Hlaalu is fairly liberal because they've basicalled allied themselves with the Imperials and willingly took on their customs. Flexible.

The new House Dres is House Redoran.

I'm sure their council is also full of vampires. :P

"Excuse me, does this hankerchief smell like chloroform to you?"

If you don't trust Dres, you must certainly don't trust the Telvanni. Except for Fyr, Ayron, and Baladas, they're pretty much the poster child for "don't use magicka to extend your lifespan, kiddies; you'll go insane in the membrane."

Nah, I love the Telvanni! They always give me free drinks! I don't know why the beastmen next to me don't like them so much, but they've always been so nice to me! Cool, another arm grew from my back, now I can scratch that spot much better. ahh....

Also, Fyr doesn't seem too bad, he's just very eccentric! Plus, like he says, you need a good hobby for living so long, and his is that corpus place. Plus, he lets his old argonian slave work as a guard, train with his 'daughters', and live pretty comfortably.

There's always some fighting going on.

It's the Dunmeri way.

No offense to any of you Dark Elves out there. It's sarcasm, you see, although it sometimes seems to have some truth to it.

House Sotha was not a Great House. It was a minor house living in/near Ald Sotha. The minor houses are not really expanded upon, but it could be assumed that any common name in Morrowind that has people and an ancestral tomb (Nerano, Theras, etc) is a minor house.
