The greatest moment in video gaming history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid_(video_game)
OMG! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-Q4-C8CshQ! The knowledge of this is also what separated the cool gamers from the wannabe gamers in school :P

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_World_(video_game)
The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNeayv-OTK0, and the game itself was awesome too!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunship_2000
Easily the flight sim I've played the most, and there was one particular mission where me and my squad choppers had to take out a bunch of anti-aircraft vehicles, and me and two other chopper flew under the radar and behind the hills, while the other two choppers acted like bait from a good distance. The surprise attack was a complete success. As a gamer, I never felt more smart than when I came up with perfect attack strategies in this game (although the original Rainbow Six games come close).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock
Before System Shock, villains were pretty much just something you met on the last level. Besides being the "bad guy", they had zero personality. SS was different, as SHODAN started to talk with you in the very beginning of the game and kept taunting you thru the whole game. The game had a bunch of cool moments, but the most special one for me was when you're on the engineering level 7 and have to destroy 4 antennas. When I put the explosive on the last one she locked the door and mocked me while the room would explode in just a few seconds. I freaked out when I realised I had fallen in a trap, but managed to hack the door open just one or two seconds before the whole room exploded. Phew!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_II:_Daggerfall
The first town I entered in the game was the city called Daggerfall, and it's huge scale really blew me away. At the time, no other game gotten remotely close of feeling "alive" as Daggerfall did. And that impressed me greatly, just walking around in this huge alive world. It's quite tame by the standards of today though, but it's arguably the most memorable moment of them all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Jedi_Knight:_Dark_Forces_II
Just running around on the huge epic levels that the game offered was awesome. Like when you run on the roof and a freaking tie bomber come and bomb the place. It's unfortunate that the sequels had much more confined and smaller levels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief:_The_Dark_Project
The biggest OMGWTF moment I ever had must have been when I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYOeHevFUKI. After muttering omg for myself what seemed a lifetime, the only thing on my mind was, of course, revenge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suikoden
Easily my favorite JRPG series (excluding the DS game), and there are way too many sad moments in the game that made me cry like a little girl, more than I care to admit in any case, and the excellent emotional music doesn't help either! Like when the sister die near the end of one of the games

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_the_Colossus
Anyone who played the game know why. The epic colossuses, epic locations and epic music simply just make the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DazoTQaqJrs from beginning to the end. Pretty much every colossus is in itself a memorable moment.

And only to mention something more recent, Portal 2 :P
"Let me guess... this is the part where he kills us"
"THIS IS THE PART WHERE I KILL YOU"
*Chapter # The Part Where He Kills You"
*Achievement unlocked: The Part Where He Kills You"

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

hardcoe Search and Destroy

Map is Pipeline

We are on defense.

This is round 7, one team must win.

The bomb is armed in building 2 next to the target.

There is one guy left on my team versus all 6 of the enemy players. All of which have set up in building 2 to guard the bomb.

Our teammate is armed with an M40 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle and a Silenced USP.

He enters building 2 with his M40 drawn.

Destroys everyone.

Disarms the bomb.

We win.

ah, yes, reminds me of my exploring days :P . i remember walking from Balmora i think it was, or just exploring, was raining in game, wind shaking the sign thats at the entrance to the Caldera, then entering the city and starting to look around... probably one of the most memorable Morrowind moments ever. and Oblivion, i think it was getting out of the sewers and into a calm, pretty night by on the river shore. and of course KoTOR, my first real RPG, real 3D game for that matter, when my character first made it out of the apartments and into the city itself. the people walking, the scale of the city itself, the red-ish, blue-ish, whatever it was sky, the sound of the city... that is still probably the most memorable RPG moment for me. ever. even more so then the leviathan moment and the other moments i already mentioned in the previous post.

This exact thing happened to me, except I was on the opposing team. I have a strange feeling that this was the same match. Is the gamertag "Khattak 47" familiar to you? And what was the gamertag of the last remaining guy?

The quest 'In the Underworld' in Nehrim: At Fate's Edge.

The length and epicness of it was amazing in itself, but the fact that the game is just a TC mod and the fact that the quest isn't even anywhere near the end of the game blew me away completely.

A lot of my own personal greatest moments in video gaming come from competitive clan matches in online FPS games.

The early part of "Homeworld" when
Spoiler
the mothership returns from its shakedown flight and you see your planet, Kharak, burning.

Near the end of "Homeworld" when
Spoiler
your fleet is flying over the homeworld at last, with your enemies nearly defeated.

Beautiful use of Barber's Adagio ("Agnus Dei") in that game. An epic game.

The moment in Bioshock 2 when
Spoiler
you see the hellhole Rapture through the eyes of a Little Sister -- as a beautiful place, a hallucination. I understood right away what the devs were doing. Brilliant design in the Bioshock series.

One of the greatest I've seen was when Lord British, the invulnerable ruler of Britannia (and played by lead developer Richard Garriott) was assassinated by a player called Rainz during a speech in the Ultima Online open beta. As I recall, the assassin cast a firewall scroll he'd stolen from a nearby mage, missed his target, and then Lord British, thinking himself invincible, actually stepped into the fire and http://media.arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/gaming-evolution.media/ultimaonline-1997.jpg (normally his character would be flagged as invulnerable, but a server crash had disabled the setting minutes before.) All hell broke loose afterward.

Another story from the old Ultima Online days: there was a storyline once where the world would (allegedly) be destroyed if an evil group called the Followers of Armageddon (aka the Zog Cabal) managed to collect several shards of blackrock for their world-ending spell. These shards were divided among several locations across the world, and placed into locked chests. These chests were then guarded by players in the game - hundreds of them. They packed the area so completely around the chests that you couldn't even move through the crowd, much less stage an attack (the game would drop your stamina to zero everytime you pushed past a person, and you'd have to wait for it to reach 100% again before pushing past the next person, and so on.) The guardians stood their ground for hours all through the night, new players logging in to take the place of those who had to leave, just standing and chatting idly about rumors of events happening at the other locations. In the days of dial-up connections, I found this to be quite a remarkable display of player solidarity.

Finally killing the final boss (Melbu Frahma) in Legend of Dragoon. That guy was, quite possibly, the hardest video game boss i've ever fought.

  • Any random moment from Morrowind qualifies.
  • Also this and the moment before it and many other moments from it:
    http://soyunjugon.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/ff8-the-end.jpg
(I had this as my desktop wallpaper for a year.)
  • Many moments from this(pyramid head):
    http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091001214938/silent/images/4/42/Silent_Hill_2_Poster.jpg
  • Thief, "Hello? Show yourself.", "Is somebody there?", "Is it just me or did something move?", "Don't make me come find you!"
  • Many moments from Duke Nukem 3D, like freezing, shattering, squeezing, drinking etc.. :P
  • Getting lightsaber in Jedi Knight 2, with saberrealisticcombat mode on. :mohawk:
  • Regular Quake 3 deathmatch moments.
  • Capturing a flag in Tribes. (open world CTF!!!)
  • PES6, scoring a goal against a worthy opponent. The satisfaction is unmeasurable.
  • Myst III, the whole game is moments of amazements. Edanna is beautiful, Amateria is my favorite age. Voltaic was too hard but it is the best looking one too.
  • Clive Barker's Undying. Lots of great moments. Both in gameplay and in story.
  • Midtown Madness, the checkpoint races. Hahahahahha... I never get that much enjoyment in a racing game. It is hilarious and fun.
  • Postal II, every day is filled with great moments. :P

Pummelling Hircine's face to dust with my bare hands at the end of Bloodmoon. It took a while, but then god-slaying shouldn't be quick and easy (unless it's Dagoth Ur, who went down like a sack of spanners).

Ha! Guess it's a bit more of a dramatic ending for the ruler though, rather than being decapitated by wonky signs in Castle British...

No one lives forever 2 in harms way at the end after that super soldier destroyed that missile and he went cliff edge to jump off, push Cate away. As he turned around and seen Cate thought that is his daughter and he fell. That is a great game. They left the game opened ended and FEAR came.

The music that plays as the Morrowind menu opens.

Morrowind in itself gave me goosebumps when I read the back of the game box and said to myself, "open ended world???" :touched:
