Personally, I'd like the games, and SOFTWARE in general to be ENGLISH ONLY.

Actually I'm quite happy there are dubs on German TV, for some movies, like the Disney animated films from the 90s, I very much prefer the German to the English version. Not because I don't understand English, but because they sound better. I hate reading subtitles, they are unbelievably distracting, that's why I am eternally grateful that Pan's Labyrinth got a decent German dub. Also not everybody does understand English completely. I learned Enlish mainly from the internet when I was a teenager, I understand it very well (write and pronounce is a different story...) but I'm probably an exception there as most of my class mates back from school barely understood anything to the point that when we were watching an English movie in school they complained so much the teacher switched from English to German with English subtitles (and we're talking about Abitur education here).
The actors they choose for video games should definitely be better ones though with proper instructions for the context in which their lines are spoken. Oblivion had the German voice for Jack Nicholson, a guy that usually does decent dubs, but they gave him wrong translations and instructions which made him talk some quite [censored] stuff. For example the line "Gods give me strength" was turned into "G?tter verleihen mir Kraft!". It's ridiculous because a desperate line was turned into "I get my strength from the gods, woohoo".
Anyway, my point is condemning all dubs is not the right thing, I like being able to chose which dub I prefer. I also wouldn't like to play Gothic in English. Just get some decent actors and keep an eye on the context.
