Really Disappointing...

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 6:21 pm

So the Bethblog just tweeted..."Hunted, RAGE, and Brink at PAX East. Should be a wicked good time http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/03/07/see-you-in-beantown/

Bethesda will have three out of their four games that are being published this year at Pax East which starts on March 11th. What a disappointment. Guess we really will have to wait until June for E3.

Why not bring all four? Rage releases LESS than two months before Skyrim so if they can bring Rage they can bring Skyrim.

Only thing I can think of is that Skyrim will be THE focus for Beth at E3 then. I really hope so.

Why? They just love to torment us is my guess. Not really that big of deal to me, I'd rather not know that much. Just interested in game mechanics.

Very old news, it's been known for quite some time that Skyrim wasn't going to be at PAX.

This. All though I think he is more concerned whether Skyrim will be the focus at E3 for them, will it have a small showing, or will it be there at all?

Old news as Luke said.

Anyway, I think it's a marketing thing. Reveal a little here and there, just enough to keep the tension up and rumours to start spread. Then amaze us with another piece of info or look of Skyrim :D

Id Software pretty much makes "run and gun" shooters. It's all they've been known for. It's actually refreshing from "stop and pop" shooters polluting the market today.

It will probably cause more stir by not being at PAX than if it was. It's still too far out to be hyping it at conventions.

Well Pete pretty much just confirmed Skyrim will be shown "behind closed doors" by appointment at E3. So IGN, gamespot and the like will probably see a demo.

Yanks4champs asked....." I know you can't say much yet regarding E3 but can you at least say "yes" or "no" regarding Skyrim being at E3 please?"

Pete replied....."PAX is a public show. E3 is an industry show where we have a closed, by appt. only booth. If you get my drift."

This doesn't bode well for that video demo series like Oblivion and Fallout 3 had though...

Brink looks pretty cool. A very unique shooter I'd say.

Rage looks decent. Awesome graphics, but I don't like a few things about it. For instance, I don't like the whole thing with these cars and racing. Definitely not my kind of thing. The story also seems a bit meh and all. There's too little tension in it for something that takes places in a world like that.

Fallout 3 gave you that post-apocalyptic feeling in a nutshell. FO 3 was amazing.

Skyrim hands down going to be Bethesda's main game. It's going to be THE main game of 2011 too I'd say. And perhaps even THE main RPG ever made so far.

I didn't think it was very smart that they are releasing a game two months before Skyrim. The elder scrolls is an older series and is majorly adored by fans. do they really think that people are also going to buy a game that is a new idea when a majorly anticipated game comes out two months later? I know I am saving for Skyrim!

your thoughts?

Different genres. Not everyone is an RPG fan.

This is a Skyrim forum. Obviously people here are buying Skyrim. We here are RPG fans, like 99% of us. Rage isn't an RPG, it seems (but I can be wrong...) and a shooter. It's quite logical we'd not be as thrilled for Rage as we'd be for Skyrim.

That's my thoughts.

After that last tweet by Pete I'm thinking Beth will demo Skyrim to select members of the press at E3 and then maybe a portion of it will be playable at Quakecon.

Doesn't stop the press from bringing cameras to the closed showing. It always happens.

agreed. but I was more leaning toward the aspect that they could lose money by releasing one game and then releasing a success as big as skyrim is. I would think that you release Skyrim, then after the hype dies down, release Rage and by that time people will be wanting something else.

True, but wasn't that Oblivion E3 walkthrough a "closed, by appointment only booth" and then Beth released the video series to us?

Either way we'll be getting a lot of online impressions from IGN and all the others.

Surprised more people haven't commented on this. At least we know Skyrim will be shown to select media behind their booth.

The games are targeted at two completely different audiences. They won't steal money from one another. Now, if both games were made by Bethesda then I could see them losing money, but the games are so different since there are two different developers.

So instead of talking about Skyrim being shown by appointment at their closed booth we are talking about if it is smart marketing to release Rage less than two months before Skyrim...
