Unable to save, locks up

Post » Tue Sep 28, 2010 11:01 pm

Here's a new one for me. I started up a new character, after going on hiatus for 3 months. I just got done taking out Eddie and clearing out the NCRCF. Every thing's going smoothly. No hiccups, no lag. I leave to any other exterior cell, like say Goodsprings or Jean's Sky diving, and try to save and BAM! Instant lock up. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 caps. Doesn't matter what cell I'm in, it's a bust.

Now, I've cleared my cache (both game and hard drive) and reinstalled everything. Tried it again, BUST. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of something similar?

I encounterd the same issue with the NCRF. I found that any kind of saving makes the game crash. After a few hours of experimenting and trouble shooting I found a rather simple fix:
1. Delete all updates/patches by clearing your system cache. (if you don't know how to do that look Ito up on YouTube)
2. Start the game.
3. When prompted to update the game decline. NOTE: this will sign you out of XLIve
4. Load up the save game file.
5. After your game has finished loading, fast travel as far away from the area you spawned in as possible.
6. Save your game
7. Exit to your dashboard and re-start the game
8. OPTIONAL: re-download all patches
9. Load the game and enjoy

I hope this helps

Already tried that unfortunately. I can save fine inside the NCRCF, it's outside that's giving me issues. As I was only about 8.5 hours in, and as I had tried the clear cache reload deal, I just deleted the entire game file from my hard drive. If it happens again, I'll know it's a faulty disc.

This happened to me today. At the same spot. I saved inside the NCRCF and now I can't save anywhere. It just locks up where ever I try to save. This is on a brand new game save just about 3 hours in. I deleted a save I had that was well over 100 hours and so full of mission breaking bugs it was unplayable. Actually I deleted every save I had for NV, formatted my HDD, cleared the cache, then played a new game. Now I can't save and have to start over again lol. But it's cool, I love the game regardless of it's flaws and I'm anticipating the next DLC. Can't wait.

Just had this deeply annoying bug crop up for me, and apparently its a well know one... so there is no fix for it? Have any mods even commented on it so that we know it's being looked into?

Have this problem with a save, as well. Going to try some things out now. Not a fix, as far as I know, but I remember this working in FO3 for the same saving issue way back in the beginning:
1.) Clear XBOX System Cache.
2.) Delete Installed FONV, just in case
3.) Load game from disc (don't install it first.)
4.) Don't apply the patch, just start the game without connecting to LIVE
5.) Load game, leave NCRCF and blow yourself up. (If possible: far far away. in FO3, I Fast Traveled to Rivet City to do this.)

I don't know if it works, but I'm posting it just in case. I had an issue in Tenpenny tower like this after killing everyone in the building without doing any of the quests RELATED to Tenpenny Tower first (maybe that's the cause, I don't know. I had not done any quests for NCRCF, either when it happened to me in NV.) and followed those steps (minus #2, at the time.) and it fixed the problem. Wish me luck, and will post if successful for NV, too.
*Sidenote, by turning all autosave features off, you can still play the game, but you will need to make NCRCF your save location, if there's not a way to fix this...

Okay, Here's what I did, and it WORKED for this save-glitch. I know I'm not "sticky" worthy or anything, but if someone with some pull around here could give this info out somehow, it'd be great. Here's exactly what I did, unfortunately, I don't know which steps are unnecessary.
1.) Cleared XBOX System Cache
2.) Deleted installed FONV
3.) Loaded game from disk.
4.) Started game without Downloading the Update. When loading the save game, it froze. Restarted Xbox
5.) Started game without Downloading the Update, When loading the Autosave (within a minute of original savegame.) it froze. Restarted Xbox
**4 & 5 are due to the Classic Pack being used by the save, I believe. Without LIVE running, DLC is unavailable. (Considered Corrupt.)
6.) Started game and downloaded patch, running on XBox Live
7.) Loaded Autosave, equipped Dynamite, FAST TRAVELED to Ranger Station Bravo.
8.) Right where I landed, unequipped armor, and took forever killing myself with this dynamite.... 20 sticks, I think it took.
9.) When Autosave was reloaded, I walked down the road away from NCRCF (toward the area right before the main highway that usually has a coyote pack milling about... atleast on all of my save games. Just go north beside the fence, not through the gate, until you reach the main road.)
10.) I fast traveled BACK to the entrance of NCRCF, then (feeling giddy.) fast traveled to Goodsprings.
11.) Fast Traveled to NOVAC, saved my game. Save worked. Walked into hotel room. saved game. Save worked.

NOTE: In previous post I don't know if I said to disable Autosaves or not, but I did this with ALL autosave features ENABLED. I haven't tested everywhere, but I know it would lock up on ANY Autosave, or save that occurred once I left the NCRCF previous to doing these steps.

I hope this helps anyone else with this problem. I'm ecstatic, as this is a save with 60+ hours at LVL 24, And MOST sidequests completed. It's breathing again, thank the Fallout Glitch Gods!

I just started a new game. It works now...of course. Now the loading times seem a lot longer than normal for a new game  . Hopefully that new patch gets released soon and helps with the problems. :fallout:

Same thing happened to me today. I just finished the NCRCF. I can save fine at that place and in the world map. It's when I go to another town like goodsprings or primm. Any type of autosave or manual save freezes the xbox. I really hope this gets fixed.

I deleted everything from my hard drive and re-installed everything again and just made a new character. This time I wiped out NCRCF after installing a sheriff (Primm Slimm). Maybe it has something to do with getting Meyers to agree to become sheriff, but instead of leaving to get his name cleared you wipe out the rest of the prison? Because it all works fine now.

I don't know if it is, but this is what I did when they game started to freeze for me.
I helped the Powder Gangers with their stuff. Travelled with the news that they're going to be attacked. During the attack, I told Meyers about the sheriff position, and he sneaks out and go to Primm. Then I installed him as Sheriff, and travelled back to the prison to loot it.

After that, the freezes came. now I can't save or go in to buildings because I freezes. Pretty annoying that I have to clear the cache and everything, but I appreciate that you guys covered it here. At least other people have this problem. I've been lucky so far, I've har multiple playthroughs without any big bugs like this.
