[RELz] Custom Spell Icons v3

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:28 am

I can certainly make an icon for Wizard's Fury. I'm always open to suggestions for spells that need icons.

I'm not in a spot to check right now, but do any of these spells/powers have custom icons? If not, would you be able to add them as well?

Possible yes, practical no. The game simply doesn't handle well viewing huge numbers of different items in your inventory. I've been trying to think of a solution, in the meantime you can just visit spell mechants. A bit less convenient but you can still choose your icons there. The problem:If somebody knows a quick way to do this, I can fix it easily. Otherwise that means making about 900 resized copies... one at a time :yuck:

I read in cs wiki that generating mipmaps when creating the icons saves you the trouble of creating 80% and 50% versions, the problem being you still have to do it manually all the same, the only advantage being you just have to open the icon, save it as dds and choose "generate mipmaps" this time instead of resizing it yourself and set the alpha channel

IF you're using Photoshop and its DDS plugin that is, I don't know how other DDS creation programs work

I made a mistake in the documentation  IsPluginInstalled "CustomSpellIcons.dll"should beIsPluginInstalled "CustomSpellIcons"

Good grief... good thing I disabled the check for my script, it was because of something else, but at least it saved me from that problem all the same :shocking:

You can assign icons in game, or make your own plugin that assigns icons. Or if you give me the mod name and form ID I can make icons for them and include them in an update.

Dumb question. What I meant to ask was, "Where's the old menu?" But you already answered that. :) I do have a specific mod in mind... it's called http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10238. There are five spells:

Enfeeblement (Dmg Agility/Strength/Speed; 009B7)

Mageslayer (Dmg Intelligence/Magicka; 0091917)

Shock (shock damage; 0087A7)

Fire (fire damage; 000CF6)

Frost (frost damage; 003930)

Thanks!

"Where's the old menu?"

Obselete. This is what the new menu will look like: http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/778458-1277954157.jpg. Hit a key to bring up the icons (or I may add a button), then click on the icon you want. All thanks to the power of kyoma's MenuQue

Now that wouldn't be so bad.

Icons for Knights (can't believe I forgot about that), Arcane Archery, and some of the unique vanilla spells will definitely be in the next release.

Great mod, unfortunately the icons do not show up in my inventory - all I get is static. My resolution isn't that low - 1280x800 - is it just because I have darnUI installed?

I've got a character that I've actually managed to spend some time playing with, and she's collected a good number of LAME and Midas spells. While I didn't play very often or for very long at a time, it didn't really bother me too much that the scripted spells all had the same icon. When you only play a few minutes a week you have to remind yourself what every spell is anyway each time you are playing. But recently I've been getting a little more time to play and just three days ago I found myself saying "hmm, it's really annoying that these spells all have the same icon, isn't there a mod for that?".

I tried it out last night. It's a keeper. Thankyou very much!

Looks funky, I guess I'll be installing MenuQue now.

Thanks for the update!

Wow, thanks for fixing the static icon bug so quickly! Also statttis, what are you using to have your spells labelled neatly like that? My spellbook is a mess because every mod seems to have its own naming convention.

When (re)building your bash patch, there's an option under "Tweak Names" that lets you add the spell school and level, along with "rationalize names", which makes spell/item names make a lot more sense in several mods.

statttis: Would it be possible to add a unique icon for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21862 (XX0010C)?

Another possilbility is Kyoma's Spell Renamer. Works really well and is dynamic - renames spells automatically. I use it with Supreme Magicka.

OK, minor issue/question about the icon selection menu. How do I get to view the icons off the screen at the bottom? I get the feeling that the ones I see are not all of them, but I can't work out how to see more. Am I missing something? I don't see anything about it in the readme...

Wow this is too friggin' amazing!! Even got a custom icon for the Finger - beauty!!

@Vacuity: there are two scroll bars tucked into the little space between the icons and the menu. They are hard to spot - I missed them at first too. They are right in the middle and are gold coloured - may not see them depending on what you're looking at on screen at the time.

@statttis: once I've scrolled through the icon list, there are some icons at the bottom of the screen that are cut off. I can make them out ok, but if you could tweak the length of the icon list, that'd be grand :)

Yeah, I spotted them shortly after posting the message. Typical. Every time I ever give up and ask a question I find the answer myself shortly thereafter. Thanks anyway though, they're not that easy to spot...

Thanks for the quick update! :celebration:

Hate to be nitpicky but now Midas Tornado has an icon, but Midas Grand Lightning Bolt still doesn't... :bolt:

Time to bump this thread and ask for a few additions, if Statttis is available... Could you please create some custom icons for on touch destruction spells? I'd like to be able to tell the difference between fire damage on target and fire damage on touch, for example. I managed to find icons that I could use for the area effect spells, but almost nothing for on touch spells.

If you haven't seen this mod, it's an absolute must-have, especially if you use a magic overhaul mod...

while this is still in the top few pages...
just got around to downloading the new version and one irritant... not a problem at all but since I'm on dialup it is a minor annoyance;
in the download archive on nexus in the icons folder there is a file thumbs.db - that is a windows junk file and can safely be deleted and cuts the archive size basically in half!.. so for the next version if that could be removed that it be great.

Great mod! I love the new MenuQue'd version... very slick, and add back the personalization I missed from the first version.

However, I'm playing in 1920 x 1080 and have a lot of screen real estate to the right of the menu that can be used to display the icons for selection... would it be possible to have the display more like http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/778458-1277954157.jpg than http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/26196-1-1278042145.jpg? Or if not, maybe have the scroll buttons move the menu down more than one line at a time?

edit: I took a peek at the xml and I see the positions of the icons is hard coded (so to speak), so I had a look at the script and if "y offset" is a multiple of 64 it would work fine. Maybe an option in the ini file for number of lines to skip per click on the arrows?

Seconded. Maybe as simple as cloning a bunch of the existing (new) icons and adding a little hand in the corner. edit: something like http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3849/screenshot32o.jpg and http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/9485/screenshot31w.jpg?
