What happened to Saint Veloth

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 11:04 am

He's the great hero who led the Chimer to Veloth, the promised land (named for him, right?). Yet I feel like we don't know too much about him, do we even know how he died? Was Nerevar his contemporary?

Just curious about these two things, simple thread, :)

Veloth was generations behind Nevar.
There may be lore on it, but in the inside right of the Velothi ancestral tomb I always thought the Urn was slightly bigger than the normal ones in the game.

OK, I was too lazy to check the timeline, thanks for the speedy reply :)

Hehe, they're all the right size. But the urn under the stairs gets its own spirit whispers SFX, maybe its Veloth (!?). I do like how they stuck the shrines to St. Veloth in there though. Maybe he's contributing some dust to the ash tray...

Veloth was generations behind Nevar.

You mean Nerevar was many generations after Veloth. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense that Nerevar is the undisputed leader of a land Veloth still has to lead the Dunmer to.

Can't we just use the words that apply to this time dimension, before and after?

Earlier and later are fine too.

Good to know.

So we don't know how he died? Or if he truly did?

I doubt he would have approved of the Tribunal, Anticipations or no.

There was a Dragon Break. The tribunal were Gods from the beginning of Nirn because they changed time to make that true, and as such existed when Veloth lead their ancestors to (then) Resdayn.

Right... those dragon breaks are great for cover ups :P and yet they are incredibly fascinating, lol!

He probably died of old age or something. He was possibly part-divine and of greater stature than normal elves, literally and figuratively, but not immortal.

Logically, his soul would have contributed to his family ghostfence and his remains would guard them, or Necrom.

I don't know about that. So far, Vivec is the only one to have put into practice what Veloth taught.

I guess that all depends on which version of Saint Veloth we're talking about, the "real" one or the one that fits into Tribunal canon.

At the point in history where nobody who remembers past events still lives, and few live who fight strongly for Truth, history can be reshaped to fit an agenda, and the new story might as well be true as it is uncontested. On our world, politicians and various other history deniers use this tactic on a daily basis, so why should it be any different in a universe that is a dream within this one?

You imply there is a difference between the two. Not everything is necessarily propaganda.

Without delving too much into real world religion and politics, I'll simply note that a great number of gods, saints and holy men throughout the years can be quote mined to support almost any stance or issue you may wish to promote, even if it's contradicted three pages later. No need to quote that verse. Quote only what supports your agenda. Exclude the rest. Not a REAL lie, but a backhand lie. A lie through exclusion.

I can easily see the Tribunal being corrupt in this way. Glorifying the aspects of Veloth's teachings that fit the Tribunal canon and glossing over or excluding the rest. Hence the whole Anticipations thing - it was really quite genius what the Tribunal did. Veloth's teachings extolled the virtues and gifts of the three Good Daedra, so what better way to pretend to continue in the Velothi tradition than to supplant and wear the identities of the patron gods?
