A full editor will not be able to run on a console, because editors need more resources to work that the actual games.
For example while creating let's say a level you might do something you regreted, and that's why editors as all other computer programs have a "undo" button.
What is happening is that not only your current state takes resources, but editors need amounts of RAM to store previous states of your work in case you want to undo something.
And modern consoles just doesn't have enough RAM for that function to work, and trying to work without such a function would be very VERY frustrating if let's say you are working for 5 days on a single mod and then you regret something you did 3 minutes ago and then you have to start re-working the same project starting from 0.

one of the issues i rarely see raised is how exactly you would go about installing mods anyways. im trying to imagine moving folders around with a clunky controller (im sure you can just pull the HDD out and do it with a computer but if that was the case you wouldnt be playing on the console anyways). many mods also require tools to run which are made with programs like python and some require .NET to work. i just see one issue after another after another when putting anything but the most basic simple mods on a console.

> Seen topic at least five times by now
> Always results in positive responses
> Always blown over by simple fact that consoles and mods will never work

End of story.

This again? There was a topic of this not long ago. The PC players generally said no and console players said yes. That said, the PC gamers are sadly right.

Ever since I got into TES with Morrowind I've gotten the game for PC only. With the PC you get the advantage of user created mods, with the console versions you get the guarantee that the game will actually run on your machine. I've always liked the ability to customize my game and having access to the console with the PC version is almost a must with TES games as you can often run into some bad bugs that will force you into restarting your entire game or push you way back to an older save.

The obvious reasons of compatibility and the ability for consoles to run complex mods of this nature aside, ever since Morrowind you have had the choice between PC customizability, and console out of the box playability. I'm not going to hate on the consoles since I have both the current gens, but TES games are meant to be played on a PC in my opinion (one that many people share).

as mentioned, mods are not just 'pop it in and play'. they are quite different from regular DLC.

and , PCs to do the job are not very expensive. One of my computers is 5 years old and runs Oblivion with about 100 mods.
of course, for some mods, I get very low frame rates in some areas. so it takes some fiddling around to get things working well enough.

If i had vast amounts of wealth i would by a gaming PC, but I don't, I'm stuck with you Xbox 360.

:shakehead:

Costs 500 bucks to make a acceptable gaming PC. You spent 500 bucks between the overpriced console games, the console accessories, xbox live, and the console itself.

"I don't have the money" is never an excuse. After you consider the costs of everything need to play a console, a decent (and acceptable) PC will cost the same price.

One thing that really bugged me is that I could never get mods on my Xbox 360.
So do you think that, when Skyrim is released, it should come with some soft wear that enables us to install console versions of mods?

I've searched the forums and so far found nothing on this topic (the search rarely works in opera)

The developers have spoken:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1160482-console-mod-dlc-possibility/page__st__40

We like seeing the mods that are made by the community, but we have no plans to make them available as official releases.

Similar to Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, the tools for Skyrim are PC only. There's no plans to release a version of the Creation Kit on consoles. If you're into modding, we suggest you go for the PC version.

it would be nice to have a pinned thread on the Community page where people can learn to price and build a gaming PC.

Console mods will not be happening as long as the existing EULA's and TOS' for the consoles are in place.
