Warhammer Fantasy

How much money are we looking at for a decent fantasy starting kit where I can paint my own?

I'm wondering whether fantasy or 40k is more expensive...

They are both expensive. I don't play Fantasy so I can't really say, but when I wanted to start, to me they seem the same, both expensive so I never started.

So to start off you need to spend at least minimum $100 and to get a "good" army I am guessing $150-$250 and maybe $500+ to get a good size army for really large battles.

I am basing off 40K, but from what I am told, it's the same for Fantasy and Lord of the Rings.

Used to collect Dark Elves for 4th/5th edition WFB (what? It's not that old..!).

I'm not so fond of the direction the hobby has gone in the past decade, but if I were to collect again I'd probably go with Chaos w/ allied Dark Elves or Orcs & Goblins (do the army lists still allow allies?), for all the conversion possibilities and awesome rare minis. I've still got the old Dark Elves army book here on my bookshelf, the one with the nekkid witch elf on the cover. :goodjob:
