Suggest to me some Anime movies :)

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 9:29 am

I am back looking for input from this lovely community (you guys always have the best answers), this time on some Anime movies. However, I am not looking for the basic crud. I don't want any TV shows turned movies. Nothing like Naruto, Bleach, DeathNote, or the other 80 dozen gay emo-ninja-emo-swordfighter-emo-emo anime's turned movie that my friends keep suggesting to me. (Who the HELL thought it would be a good idea to make a bipolar-depressed-emo-ADHD-12 year old-ninja a main character for an anime? Sorry, small rant came out of me there...)

Anyway's. I am looking for movies that have a story, and that aren't non-stop fighting or almost entirely action based. I am looking more or less into some of the more 'regular' story. Examples being most of Hayao Miyazaki's movies, like Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, or Laputa. And as of recently, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (I know this isn't a Hayao Miyazaki movies, but still awesome none the less).

So there you have it! I am definitely hoping the BSF forums can pull through for me once again. And sorry if some of this is misspelt or doesn't make sense 100%, but I am currently on no sleep and it's almost 10:00am. I'm sooo tired.

if you haven't already; you HAVE TO watch the following Hayao Miyazaki movies

Nausica? of the Valley of the Wind
Castle in the Sky
My Neighbor Totoro
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle

also, 5 Centimeters Per Second is something everyone should watch at some point, even if they don't like anime. It's probably the best anime film I've ever seen.

I don't watch many anime films, but if you are also looking into TV shows then I'd recommend Hellsing Ultimate (OVA)

Seen every single movie he has ever directed // been part of story creation for. He's by far my all time favourite director and story-writer. The man is a genius.

Akira
Grave of the Fireflies
Metropolis
Perfect Blue
Patlabor: The Movie
Patlabor 2: The Movie
Steamboy

I know you said no TV series turned film, but Macross: Do You Remember Love? was one of the better adaptations I've seen. Macross Plus: Movie Edition is also good, though I preferred the four-part OVA.

Both MP's OVA and movie have something that are exclusive to them, my personally reference is to watch both; while DYRL > TV, despite the slight change in content, the flow is smoother and pacing is better.

Also, FYI, there is an "unofficial anime thread" - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1181136-unofficial-anime-thread-x
