Weekly Cycles

I think it's time to break the date cycles down to weeks and days of the week. I think a lot more cool stuff could be worked into the game with that in place.

One thing that's been hard to implement are annual or even monthly events because that can take a looong time in game hours to get to just one of those. I would love to see some weekly events take place. This could also mean the NPC's daily ritual changes on weekends so there would be a weekend script where they go and what they do.

Perhaps the taverns get more crowded on weekends. Also give the NPC's several changes of clothes that they randomize through so on a weekend you might see a woman that works a market tent during the week, wearing some more sixy clothes and hanging out at a tavern.

Street parties on the weekends, maybe even most shops closing on Sunday except for a few that would charge more giving you the option of taking that hit to sell stuff on Sun or wait it out for the next day.

Um.... low tech societies, don't actually get "weekends". That is a modern post-industrialized world invention.

That doesn't mean there shouldn't be a little variation in their schedules, but that might be a lot of extra work for the developers for very little in return. Most players probably wouldn't notice and some might even find it frustrating that things aren't "working the way they are supposed to work".

Like the change of cloths idea though.

"Hey brother Martin, haven't you been wearing that robe for a while now, I'm just saying ... "

Oblivion did have weekly schedules for NPCs. It was generally kept fairly simple, such as having an NPC travel to another city on certain days of the week.

Let's not forget this is Tamriel and it's a fantasy world, not Earth. Things don't have to necessarily follow what might have happened on Earth.

Also, if there are churchs that seems to suggest there is a weekend and a day that church goers congregate for a sermon.

I have to disagree and think most gamers would notice weekly cycles, especially if you stroll into a town on a weekend and see events going on that weren't there during the week.

That's just such a wrong statement. The chapels in Oblivion were to the Nine divines and have nothing to do with our churches and christianity whatsoever. There were no chapels of the like in Morrowind and I don't expect them in Skyrim either. So there isn't a sunday service or anything like that.

However, some changes in daily schedules of NPCs would be nice. For hard laborers the difference should be minimal but for people with the wealth to travel and visit other places, there should be some more activity besides a daily schedule.

I never brought up the word Christianity.... I say tomatoes you say tamatoes, you're missing the point if you focus on the word I used. That was just an example, I'm pretty sure most cultures no matter what level of advancement they are at had weekly patterns. and the other point is making that work to break up the repetetiveness of what you see when you return to a town.
