Dog Sled

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:14 am

As much as I love the idea of a dog sled, I can't make it work as a player mount mechanically, because there won't be snow everywhere. I'd be happy to see them as a transport service though, where the means of transport varies with geographic features. Although a player mounted horse may be able to traverse snow (maybe even with a slow cart attached reducing its speed), I doubt that a dilligence based service would be able to ignore snow.

So for services; mammoth, horse dilligence, dog and raindeer sleds, depending on local geographic features making it feel natural. Please add more :)
Player mounts; horses, wart hog (slightly oversize), (pack) mule (slower, but packs more and ignores terrain/slopes). Ehm, slow today, please add more :)

Services would have more depth to it, I just included those dealing with animals.

Vikings didn't use horsecombat... that's why the danish lost England....

so if we follow your logic it would kill you if bethesda added horsecombat, wouldn't it? And you probably don't want mammoth mounts either since they were extinct durring that age...

they used horses plenty tho, they just didn't wanna waste a good horse on something that stupid *cough* i think the reason why vikings rarely used horse combat was because there were so many men, so few horses! (so many men, so few swords too) sorry for doublepost btw

A great option just so you can:

- Hear the pandamoium of hooking up and the contrasting silence as they're finally launched (yes, launched)
- Chop frozen meat for them to eat (or eat them when you get frozen? )
- Throw out your snow hook and pray that it catches
- Curse when they see a deer and run off with you on the sled, holding on for dear life as they take you over drops and rocks, hoping that you don't fall off because all of your provisions would be lost... (T'was an intersting night that one was)
- Feel the familiar liquid warmth on your leg as you put them in a harness
- Curse when you realize that you put a male next a female who just went into heat
- laugh at the Bugs Bunny moment when the dogs go left around the tree, but you and the sled go around the right.

Um, ya, I'm for it!
But I figure it has as much chance as, oh, Rosie O'Donnel or Macy Gray singing the Star Spangled Banner again

I live in Vancouver, Canada. Most of my city looks more modern than almost all American cities. I have never been dog sledding or snowshoeing, I svck at skiing and I am a beginner at snowboarding. Ive only been up a mountain 15 or so times. I speak like the average American (not a southerner).

Most Canadians are like me.

I do want dog sledding though.

Just wanted to say that the norse and celts DID use magic, and it was prevalent in their stories. You can debate about whether it was real or not, I suppose.

It was real because they did use it, only downside was that it worked as well as casting fortify luck 100 for 3 seconds before entering a dungeon in Oblivion.

Sounds like a cool idea, but I would much rather have a mammoth or saber-toothed tiger mount.

damn i was being ironic im canadian(the best video game developping country in the world) and I live 45 minutes south of montreal (the best video game developping city in the world) I was joking you know....

Canada is far from being a primitive country we almost invented 3D computer modelling and animating. we have studios in montreal such as Ubisoft (assassin's creed, splinter cell, ghost recon, prince of persia etc...) we have Bioware ( Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Starwars Kotor) we have EA montreal wich i dont know what they did so far. We have Eidos montreal working on Deus EX Human Revolution and Theif 4 and an unanounced Project. THQ made a brand new studio in the city this year. we also have funcom working on Age of Conan. I mean if were that primitive how come people all across the world play our damn video games.

I like the idea !

I think the dog sleds should also double as Inventory extension as well. Like a set of 2 chests per sled. However, I think if you add a benefit you should also add a flaw ... need to feed those mutts. So you'd better bring enough food, or else they can start to get pretty weak, and slow down a lot.

Also, since the dogs are part of the sled extension, they can't help you fight off other monsters. They'll just sit there yapping and howling while you do all the dirty work. If you kill a creature, you can feed the dogs on that creature if they're hungry for it.

MUSH!!!! MUUUUSH!!!!

I don't think 'fantastical beast mounts' really suit a game like Skyrim, it's more of a WoW thing. A Dog Sled would work, as it's more down-to-earth. (or down-to-Nirn, obviously  )
The only draw back I see with the later is that not all of Skyrim is snow bound - and any mount they do include in the game is going to have offer universal travel surely?

When I found out that bioware was Canadian I was pretty happy scince they make mass effect one of my top favorite games.

What do you mean? Skyrim is a fantasy RPG. Of course it would suit Skyrim. You can't compare it to WoW. A mammoth or saber-toothed tiger would actually look and behave like a mammoth or saber-toothed tiger in Skryrim, not a Saturday-morning cartoon like WoW.
