Dungeon Maps?

Post » Fri Oct 29, 2010 4:48 am

We have been told that the map in the world will be a top down zoomed out view above our character. So we get that and it will look cool. But how will they handel dungeon maps?

The camera cant exactly pull out and take a view from the top down as ther'd be roock in the way. So how do you think they will do dungeon maps? especialy now that we have allmost no UI?

I thought giving us teh whole dungeon map as soon as we stepped through teh door was kinda easy. I didnt have to explore the dungeon at all. And I allready knew where everything was.

How about a dungeon map that we have to uncover (fog of war) ?

And Morrowind's, and Daggerfall's.

Hmmm... Speaking of Daggerfall, who'd be in favor of them doing 3-dimensional rotatable and zoomable interior maps again? Maybe with a bit more fade effects than what were present in Daggerfall.
Twould make sense, considering their decisions regarding displaying inventory as fully rotatable 3d items a la Redguard.

It all depends on how many layers are in each dungeon - if a dungeon has several levels, the 2d maps get confusing, but otherwise I would like to avoid the 3d map. Part of me likes to think of my character sketching his maps as he goes... Same reason I would prefer they didn't do the zoom in thing.

A good dungeon is one that doesn't require a map - you memorize all of it in your head. In Oblivion, I almost never looked at the interior maps at all, I just went in and the dungeon design just mapped itself out in my memory.

Yes but he said "I thought giving us teh whole dungeon map as soon as we stepped through teh door was kinda easy", which is false. The dungeon maps were not all faded in from the start.

That's cause they were all virtually the same. After a few run throughs I memorized all the dungeons too.

I agree, some dungeons like the organic ones in SI was a pain to navigate
One other option is to view layers so you can move viewpoint up and down but a 3d view would be best.

This. They've spent time on sprucing up the world map so I'm sure dungeon maps have gotten special treatment as well.
