Isolating a specific change

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 5:59 pm

I just noticed that one of the mods I have installed has altered the value of soul gems I fill. Empty petty soul gems, for example, have a value of 10 gold. So do ones filled by me. Looted petty soul gems already filled retain their original value of 40 gold. I'm trying to track down which mod is causing this change. Short of loading each mod into the CS individually, is there some way to accomplish this?

With TES4EDIT you can find the culprit in a minute.

Well now I'm baffled. Didn't find anything in TES4EDIT, so I started removing mods. Got right down to vanilla and nothing has changed. Filled and empty soul gems still have the same value.

the OP said that empty or self filled soul gems have the same value, while looted filled gems have the appropriate increased value. This is in fact the setting of vanilla, EE changes it so that self filled soul gems also changes value i think

oh nvm, i see that you're looking for the price change all together

If the change was done by way of scripting, the change is part of your save now. You'll need to restore your load order, load it all into TES4Edit, and then go find the entry for the soul gems after it's done processing. You should be able to see exactly what touched them via the "referenced by" tab at the bottom.

So the values listed on the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Soul_Gem only apply to gems as you find them? Bah... I've been chasing a ghost.

EDIT: I disabled all mods, cleaned out my saves directory, and started fresh just to test this.

EDIT2: I need to learn to read: "These IDs and values are set at the time you acquire a soul gem, and do not get changed when you fill the soul gem with a soul. "

erm, i'm a bit confused by what you're asking. Are you wondering why empty gems and full gems are worth 10 and 40 gold respectively instead of some other value, or are you asking why self filled gems aren't changing values? Coz for the latter it's not a mod causing it.

Edit: yeah, you got it :D
