Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Is it just me or does the quality of lighting in the screenshots vs. the gameplay video look like completely different games.

I'm hoping the gameplay video is just low res with low res textures.

SCREENS (look much better than video):

The art direction and character design for the creatures is a bit cartoonish, but overall it looks like a fun game with some sick spell animations. Really looking forward to it - hopefully there will be some sort of Steam demo to try before buying.

I see it too. I think this game looks terrible anyway.

I am slowly losing interest. The more i hear about it, the less i like it. It looks too Fable-ish for my taste. And no i am not saying that every WRPG has to be like Bethesdas games (i like BioWares games too after all) nor that Fable is necessarily a bad game but it's just not the kind of roleplaying game i am interested in. Still, not many single player WRPGs around, can't be too picky.

Not liking how this game looks at all. It's too gaudy, like a mix of Fable and World of Warcraft.

Looking back, that old teaser trailer they released was so misleading.

Yes, it is a 2012 title.

I'm going to guess they didn't want to compete with Skyrim, smart move.

I'm surprised and a little disappointed in the negativity towards this game from some of you guys. This game looks like a decent a-rpg at the very least. Theres not enough games like this anymore and I'm definitely going to give this game a good, fair, shake when it comes out.

If it was just a modest RPG, I would kind've agree. But the fact that they're milking the whole Ken Rolston thing (the press hasn't helped) is obviously going to raise expectations and invite a lot of criticism.

Stylization seems to be completely spat upon by modern WRPG players, for whatever reasons.

I don't know why I still feel like pointing this out. What's so bad about stylisation? Artistic visions don't need to include quasi-realism all the time. That's not even how the human brain works!

This is a decent looking game not to mention that Ralston is a part of this project. Although the game's fighting looks too much like Fable which isn't bad but I don't know if it's good either.

I suppose it also doesn't help that it's colorful, either. It's stylized and colorful... and we all know why WRPG players hate all JRPGs and why western developers of all genres love making things "dark", "gritty", and mixed variations of the colors gray and brown, right? :P

Honestly, that's something that disgusts me about so many modern games. I want colorful and cheerful. I don't necessarily prefer stylization, yet I don't condemn it, either, but I most certainly prefer pretty colors.

We've only seen a small fraction of this game so I'm guessing that theres going to be a mix of colorful and gritty.

By the way, is this open-world in a Fable-sense? Or is it closer to an Oblivion type of map? I prefer the latter.

I LOVED fable (tlc) I like this game because I feel I my finally have another game like it, fable is now pretty much dead to me. so yep I am liking this it will be the game fable 2 should have been. I havent seen any gamelay of spells but I hope it has variety like fable did. Melee combat looks fine aslong as its not too easy.

That lava spike spell in the gameplay video looks awesome.
