Expert advice needed

Well I gotta say I haven't been here for a while, glad to see Bethesda has decided to unleash a new Elder Scrolls, can't wait for it to be out. Which leads me to a couple of questions.

I have both a laptop and a pc. I work away for 2 weeks at a time so I don't see the point of upgrading my pc, however I'm wondering if my laptop is up for the challenge of running Skyrim. It runs Fallout 3 and New Vegas no worried. I'm aware that system specs aren't out yet, but do you think the following is good enough?

Intel i5 at 2.4 (I thinks it's a 540 or similar)
Nvidia 240m at 1g dedicated
4 gig ram ( DDR 3 I think)

Do you guys think it is worth getting the laptop equivalent if the i7 or changing the os to 64 bit and upgrading the amount of ram?

Any advice is appreciated :D

If you're not aiming for maximum settings, your laptop as it is now will suffice.

That's what I had thought. Let's say I want max settings and newer games out this year (like The Witcher 2 for example) do you think it's worth the upgrade? Even just to last another 2 years until I get a new desktop or laptop if need be?

I'd never claim to be an expert, but if your laptop runs FO3/NV, it's certain to run Skyrim.

How well it will run Skyrim is a question no one can really answer yet. More memory is unlikely to improve framerates in games much (if at all); if you do upgrade, I'd focus on CPU architecture & clock speed, and (probably most importantly) graphics hardware. In any case, I'd wait till we're closer to Skyrim's release before upgrading anything, as faster, cheaper hardware will be available in ~8 months time.

If you want max settings then your only choice is an upgrade. Moreso if you want next year's games on max.

Thge basic advice is wait till its out and you see how it performs if you want more power go ahead and get more power at that point.
