More places to fight outside dungeons.

Post » Tue Nov 09, 2010 4:06 am

Alright, so don't think that I don't like dungeons and caves...I only get kinda depressed and wanting to see the sun(ingame sun) and not stay in the dark dungeons the entire time.
I think there should be some places outside where there is lots of fighting.
In oblivion it was just wolves and stuff that popped up once in a while. the guards would arrest you, and there was nothign else to fight in the open sunlight or rain.

i think skyrim should keep the dungeons and caves, but offer more fighting oportunities outside in the open.

You are right about that. I would like to see more fights outside. Like a band of bandits raiding a town, that would be awesome. :celebration:

there was a bunch of bandit camps but there needs to be more, also I think more than likely the dragon fights will always be outside, I have no idea how they would handle that inside

they mentioned something about fighting a dragon inside a cave/dungeon so at least one dragon wont be fought outside

Well... you did have camps in oblivion with 1-4 bandits. But i suppose having bigger settlements full of enemy bandits or goblins would be cool to have i suppose :).

they probably limited outside fighting because its much more system intensive than fighting indoors. Still, More place to fight outside would be nice.

I believe that one magazine mentions encountering a dragon in a dungeon, so I would say you can enouncter them in dungeons, though I can only assume it will be a different experience from fighting them outdoors since they wouldn't have room to fly around.

But I wouldn't mind a little more outdoor action, mostly for the sake of variety. I mean, past games did have combat outdoors, but it seems that like many games, the big fights usually took place in doors. Having more major outdoor fights could add a bit more variety to the game. Not only in terms of scenery, but it could also allow players to employ some tactics that might not work in dungeons as well. I could see things like battles against thugs and assassins in towns. This shouldn't be a common occurrance, because it annoys me when even in major settlements in games, I can't walk for five steps without being attacked, mostly this sort of thing should only happen during quests, though if you travel around at night in the less reputable areas of town, there could occassionally be people attacking you. When traveling, players could potentially be ambushed by bandits. After all, bandits don't just wait around in caves all day for someone to come and kill them, they should make an actual effort to rob travelers, because you know, that's what bandits do and all that. Bandits also don't need to always attack the player on sight, not that I mind if they do that at times, but I'd like to see more situations like the highwaymen in Oblivion, only they shouldn't be limited to Khajiit and shouldn't and up leveling glass armor due to level scaling and still try to rob you for a couple hundred gold. Also, in this kind of situation, I'd like to be able to try to scare them off, after all, bandits aren't suicidal, when they're wearing leather armor and carrying an iron dagger, you'd think that when the orc in full Daedric armor carrying an enchanted warhammer tells them that it would be in their best interests to leave him alone, they'd be inclined to listen.

Obviously, there should still be fighting in dungeons, I like fighting enemies in a well designed dungeon, just that there can be more action taking place outdoors too.

I totally agree. Dungeons can be interesting and fun, but after a while I get sorta paranoid and end up just turning invisible and running out if I've been in there too long. There should be large bandit camps and massive valleys full of enemies to fight, along with loot :) I liked how New Vegas did it with the Fiends. They were usually outside, and in or around ruined buildings. This made it fun to run into a gang of them while traversing their land :D This should be almost exactly the same in Skyrim, but with a different faction such as the bandits with a whole region being overrun by them so you have to fight you way through in a sandbox setting. Getting to Jacobstown in NV was a hell of a lot of fun (until those [censored] CAZADORS! FUUUUUU-).

I want to see small (well, huge, but small to them) tribal villages where giants live.

Indeed, I really despise gratuitous dungeon diving. That's why I think Fortresses are the way to go. It allows us to fight above ground while keeping the action contained in a relatively small cell for rendering purposes. Best of both worlds.

I'm not too clear on the technical terms, but I wouldn't mind 'outside' battle areas that are their own seperate space like dungeons. Like if you went through a gate into a graveyard or a maze or something which still has the appearance of an outside area.

You are right or atleast they should make the dungeons larger so they all wouldn't look like some [censored] sort of hallways. I also like the idea above: graveyard, maze or maybe a large camp.
