Background of NCR in New Vegas?

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:44 pm

Are we going to get more details about NCR in New Vegas? I know in fallout 2, there were many different endings, some ended with certain towns in NCR, other endings those towns were not in NCR.

Also does anyone know if there will be a map either in the game or that comes out of the game of NCR?

There is a map on the pip-by, and I'm sure siding with NCR will guarantee you a detailed history on what happened in the past 48+ years.

I was under the impression that the New Vegas NCR had been cut off from the main NCR base and that they had no idea what has happened to them.

More like getting to large far to quickly. Nazi Germany made the same mistake in WWII, Hitler didn't want to give up a single mile of the land he had worked so hard to conquer but he also didn't have enough troops to maintain both the Western Front & the Eastern Front which in turn resulted in the loss of every last piece of conquered land his conquests near and abroad had earned him when the Allies came barreling through both fronts into the heart of the Reich. The NCR must be willing to scale down their ideals at least until they have a large enough occupational force to seize and maintain each and every area they have under their control.

So I can assume from reading everything, that you can help NCR become more secure, the 'power' in the region in Vegas.

I'd surmise so. With the Caesar's Legion in shambles after their utter destruction at the hands of the NCR, the NCR would be basically the only major power left on the West Coast leaving them free to secure Democracy on the area. :tops:

I think if you side with the NCR, you can talk to their soldiers and officers about the history of the republic for the past few decades. But from what I am seeing, my guess is that all the settlements in Fallout 2 ended up joining the NCR one way or the other.

For example, the only way for NCR to continue their expansion was by getting control of Vault 15, so it is sure to have joined the republic. The same goes for Vault City, as it is confirmed that Super stimpacks (a pre-war medicine that only Vault City is able to produce) will appear in New Vegas.

Also, Redding also most likely joined the NCR, as they are the ones on the West Coast with functional gold mines to support the NCR's economy. But the Brotherhood either destroyed or captured the town as the NCR dollar is no long backed by gold. As for New Reno, there is no why to be sure. But perhaps it did joined the NCR so it gave them some experience in managing and controlling lawless gambling towns.

I very much hope we get to see an in-game map of the NCR. Depending on how much lore we get about them we may be able to create a rough outline of it's borders, but an in-game map would be really great. Not as a carryable item, mind you, but just hanging on a wall somewhere. I'd like to see the same for the territories controlled by Caesar's Legion but because they don't seem to be an actual nation that seems far less likely.

My guess? Hoss took over.

That right there's enough for the whole NCR to go to hell in a handbasket. :)

Highly unlikely. The way the government works in NCR is that they have general elections and a congress in deciding the policies of the republic. Even in the worst ending for the NCR in Fallout 2, someone like Hoss will not be able to end up in power.

But perhaps after Tandi is got they took the idea of bring civilization but to the wasteland a bit too far and are expanding a lot faster then they can administrate.

I don't think the Shi would have joined the NCR. Their technology is just as advance (if not more) then the Brotherhood. Remember, they have so much spare advance technology that they are afford to sell power armor and energy weapons to outsiders. And if you read the notes on their scientific research, you will see that they have in the process of developing things like a new energy source, aircraft, and even space flight. Unlike other settlements in the wasteland, they really don't have a reason to join the NCR.

But perhaps the two powers can form a alliance or at lease sign a treaty of friendship. In Fallout 2, both powers only had limited contact with each other and their goals doesn't seem to be in conflict.
