TES Nexus Infected?

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 3:30 am

So what is the deal here? Actually safe or not? Google is still warning and I am not taking one iota of a chance, I simply can't afford to. Anyone know an alternative download for Mr Siika's Cliff Resource or am I okay to download from Nexus?

I think its safe, its just site advisors which need to catch up. If I had the Malware Phishing option in Iron enabled I think it would be warning me also, because that feature is still provided by google. But so far since this news broke the only thing dodgy I have found as mentioned above was the attempts by individual file uploaders. I guese the hosts file as usual is doing a good job of blocking me connecting to any bad third party which have been passed to tes sites via advertising and not been thoroughly checked out for their authenticity by the advertising agencies involved. Otherwise anything downloaded initially gets a scan by Microsoft Security essentials, followed by Malwarebytes antimalware if I have further reason for suspicion.

I've read the thread on Nexus - I don't recall anyone actually catching anything. I scanned and was clear and never got a warning with my firewall or virus protection of a threat. Just Firefox giving an alarm. Still staying a little clear till more news.

~snip~ Just Firefox giving an alarm. ~snip~

Yep I think Firefox's anti-mal/phishing is also google fed mis-info at the moment, they use the same service as chrome variations.

Not for myself. Then again, I am using Google Chrome.

Oh well, I'll just surf the site with Opera for now... :sadvaultboy:

Depends on where you are going and what you are doing -- I can go to the main page and look at things but trying to access any file pages still brings up the warning ! (ie. trying to look at the top 100 or your uploaded mods pages)

Just turn of the option that keeps you from accessing the site - download those 2 mods and then reenable the security option !

I am too paranoid to do that :P . I prefer to wait and see that everything is alright then enter the site and download.

DarkOne has already said its safe. If you don't believe him, get the appropriate anti-virus software (which you should already be using, anyway). If you're still paranoid, get an add blocker. It doesn't get much safer than that, no matter what google says.

I know of at least one person who got nailed right near the beginning of the incident and before they knew it, the virus had gotten out of control and trashed her OS. So there WAS a danger at one time. Not now though.

This. Ad-block plus a good AV and you're fine. Ad-block would have prevented the initial infection from ever loading even if you had no AV at all. The only annoyance at this point is dealing with Google's warnings.

Thanks :) . Lucky I have both AV and ad block, maybe I will go beyond google's warning if I lose my patience.
