Chapter 1: Beyond the Future

The year was indeed 2312, a beautiful Monday morning, but a horrible day to awaken to the sight of a murder. Collins filed in the report and teleported to the scene of the crime. A good detective, late forties, and had a striking bond with the other detectives, preferably the older ones than the cubscout rookies. He loved his job, and he would keep doing it another twenty years if the force let him. Detective Roger Collins arrived on cue, the crime scene investigators wrapping up key evidence.

Collins rushed to one of the investigators. "Excuse me, I'm with the Lawrent Police Department, I have clear access through here and through the evidence files, may I please see what you folks have?"

The investigator turned his head around, a pip boy 4000 latched around his arm, he turned around completely in the blazing sunlight. "Absolutely---Collins? Ugh..Jeez, knew you would show up."

"Always on time and on par Dunn." The good detective grinned.

Dunn, who was a hard nosed investigator took pride in his job. He hated the Metcro, who was the new founding governed organization. It was too badd Dunn was downgraded after knocking one of the Metcro agents out. It happend a year ago, and he's been doing the unclean and unsanitary work ever since. He cleans the area and the equipment instead of doing his traditional investigations. He did his past job on occasion, but would probably be suspended for the lack of doing his new work.

Collins was guided through several tents and tunnels until finally they got to the morgue.

The door shut behind them, and Dunn made sure that nobody could get in.

"Safe and secure Detective, what do you need?"

"I want to see evidence that this was infact a cold case murder. A homicide. Do you have anything?"

Dunn walked over to a desk, there Collin's eye caught a glimpse of laser sealed bags with the objects tightly sealed inside.

Dunn played with his pip boy and in an instant the lasers around the bag turned off, unsealing the bag.

"I could get fired for this," Dunn said handing over the bags of evidence, "but what the hell do I care? My boss thinks he can overrun the damn place anyways."

Collins heard enough of Dunn to know the guy was just a class A whiner. He despised whiners, but Dunn was a likeable guy.

Collins was holding three objects in his hands, he wore latex gloves which would not dispose of any printing or any other aformalities that could jeopardize the case.

A Key, a wallet, and a journal. Collins studied the key carefully, but there wasn't much of anything on there. The fingerprints belonged to the victim. Then there was the wallet. Carefully examining the wallet, Collins unwravelled it to reveal pre-war paper money, a couple of pictures, and an ID. The wallet belonged to a Mister Franklin Hunt:

Name: Franklin Hunt
Age: 32
Height: 6'2
Weight: 186 lbs.
Eye Color: Green
Birthplace: Canton, Ohio
Fingerprint anolysis: 1FFWSA322

Everything matched. The Fingerprinting anolysis to the actual coded DNA mods. Hunt was the victim, and the killer wanted not his wallet, because paper money is a thing of the past, he wanted the next item. The journal.

Collins opened up the journal, he paged through it briefly until he decided he had virtually nothing better to do on a peaceful Monday morning. He re-opened the journal, the first page actually, and began to read.
