Would it be Dumb for Bethesda

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 3:52 am

In the Trailer, we see the Character with a Bull Helmet and a sort of a Dark Dragon flying about, would it be Dumb for Bethesda to Spoil it and Litterly show us the Powerful Character we've become while seeing him doing a Dragon Call upn the Beast in front of him.

Now Allot of Movies, they actually do this by showing a Glimpse of the End in a Trailer and when you go see the Movie, you realize that Piece from the Trailer is Infact the End of the Movie.

A lot of people already knew Alduin is going to be the big baddy, and may or may not be the final boss. Personally, I hope not. A tiny mortal vs. a world eating dragon (i.e. he's larger than Mundus). Yeah.

Well the final boss (not that there's really such a thing in TES) is probably Alduin, who probably looks like an extremely badass and uber powerful dragon  Then again the plot may vary and there's another antagonist...

What I saw was hero running from dragon until he had nowhere else to run. He had to stand and fight. He thought he was a dead man when he was washed with dragon fire. However, the flames did not hurt him and it dawned on him, he is powerful. He unleashes his Dragon shout and proceeds to defeat the dragon. As this would be the first dragon he encounters, it's probably a weak one. Now it's game time, let Skyrim unfold.

Not necessarily. But it's likely Alduin is going to be the final boss yes.

The reason I'm doubting is because we don't know why the dragons have returned. The reason of the return of the dragons is one of the mysteries for us to be revealed in the main-story. And who knows, perhaps the reason is related to something else than Alduin, which could mean we get to fight that thing instead in the end.

I don't think we'll literally be able to fight Alduin. Accounts from the aldudaggas note that eventually the entire world was covered in Alduin's coils save for High Hrothgar(Which alduin was about to munch down)

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu by attacking him with a sword.

Nah I don't think so, why would it be dumb? if you can help it dont look :D and besides looking at the boss doesnt tell you how the fights gonna turn out..or even if thats the final boss. and game companys usually practice showing instances in their games that are far in the story, in essense every trailer we watch is a spoiler, which should be redefined because it doesnt spoil the experience.

That could very well be the case, because i would Hate to go 50 Hours through the Game in Full Armor since the Trailor and face Alduin witch looks like a Baby Dragon and say "This is it, this is what i went Hours/Days/Months for to come to this Overkill Overpowered Little Beast"

WTF??? I get your point but that link is ridiculous, man.

Also, to the OP: You're not even close about that trailer having anything to do with the main quest. That was a dragon fight. A key example of the type of gameplay Todd and Pete talked about while describing the trailer itself. Also, the main idea of the primary antagonist is pretty well explained by the whole prophecy about the Dragonborn PC....Alduin is the main threat aside from the horde of dragons, and any other characters/beings involved with Alduin's return will be dealt with in an effort to stop the overall threat.

I posted it because every single Bethesda game has averted that situation.

You learned Dagon's protonymic and neonymic and used them to banish him.
You sundered Ur's connection to the heart, making him defeatable.
Martin used divine influence to cast mehrunes back into oblivion.
You became Sheogorath to effectively banish Jygallag from SI(which he had limited power in, as it wasn't his realm)

You are not going to attack something that literally eats the entire world and expect to win.

And yet by your examples, apparently we're going to do the same thing we've done in every TES game....we'll destroy/exploit the weak points and take down the undefeatable destroyer of everything. Again.

So, I'm sure Alduin will be beaten in a similar fashion (especially since we already know he was stopped before, and we'll find out how THAT happened during the MQ).

Is that a bad thing to you? I'm confused by your post...

The Dragon Age 2 trailer was kind of spoilerous, it...

Spoiler
showed Hawke making out with Isabela. =/

So what I'm saying is that I don't think Bethesda are dumb enough to include important events in their trailers, like Oblivion didn't neither.

You realize Alduin MAY NOT be that big? You just dont understand how mythology works in Elder Scrolls (which works just like in the real world, full of embellishment).

People are saying you're going to be fighting him directly. It's ridiculous. The link corresponds with the text I posted, you are not going to punch out cthulhu.

And we already know why he stopped before. Marukh and his selectives shaped him into akatosh, removing his more destructive tendencies. Since the covenant is broken, he reverted to Alduin/Auri-el.

Further Edit: Yes he is that huge. Can eat the world implies larger than the world. And you're completely off on the mythology remark. Take a look into the lore forum.

Or it can be like in Oblivion, where you don't even fight the grandaddy badass (Mehrunes Dagon) but rather assist some in fighting him, or use some sort of special trick to kill him without actually dealing damage yourself (like Dagoth Ur in Morrowind).

Oblivion was my First Game and i did find it wierd to go through 50 Hours or more in the Game and Main Quest with all that Character Build up, just to sit aside in the end for this King Wannabe Dude to change into a Dragon while he Defeats Marun Dagon in Seconds, so what exactly was my point of being throughout the Game again to sit back and watch the other guy do My Work and Die anyway in the process with no King for the Kingdom.

I gotcha now. Just wondering whether or not you were criticizing that style or not.

Also, as far as the base lore regarding Alduin, his complete story is not fully detailed aside from those basics. I am specifically referencing the Game Informer article detailing the description of Alduin's Wall, and how one of the concerns of the PC during the MQ will be discovering exactly how the 3 characters present on the wall "defeating" Alduin come into play. Todd himself mentioned as well that a key to the MQ will be learning that full story. I think of it in a similar vein to the role of the Mythic Dawn and how the PC has to address them and Mankar Camoran in OB to have "the keys" to defeating Mehrunes Dagon.

And yes, you are right to point out the obvious: If the enemy is bigger than the world, you'll need something bigger/better than a sword to beat it. However, until the game's story unfolds for us all, it remains to be seen exactly how we will defeat Alduin. I place my bets on it being somewhat surprising though, knowing Bethesda.

Hardly a surprise. If you can't have six in it, it's not a Bioware game.

What he is saying is we never really end up killing a god, unless we are one, or sever the source of their power. If Alduin does end up awakening, it'll most likely be Shor who makes an appearance to smack the dragon back to sleep.

Except that myth is real in TES.....Don't start accusing me of being wrong, when devs and ex-devs that are still hired to write out the lore pretty much say that myths are real in the world of TES. Maybe you don't understand how mythology works in the Elder Scrolls.

Irregardless of who the end-boss is, I don't think it's dumb at all if Bethesda reveals this fact now or at any point in the future. We don't have Any idea on how the story will play out, how the final battles will go, and what kind of awesome adventure lays in store for us.

I for one could have never guessed how cool it was to fight Mankar Camron (sp?) in his Paradise versus fighting him somewhere on the main continent - it was a brilliant stage for the final scene (even if the end-battle was easy).

Lets give Bethesda a little more credit that they know how to make an Epic game, as they have not failed us in the past IMHO.

Thanks for reiterating what I already said btw....

I was wondering why obvious things have to be posted over and over again for no real purpose. He answered that by stating that some people are silly enough not to realize how fighting the antagonist at the end of every TES game works. I thought his example link to seem somewhat critical, however. I personally am of the opinion that it's a perfect heroic story type to have the protagonist win by stopping the super powered antagonist through exploitation of weakness, unknown power/transformation, and/or the common deus ex machina event. I asked because I am well aware that Bethesda knows how to handle those story types and will do an amazing job in Skyrim as well. I just like supporting that style and will defend it if it is opposed. No issues, here, though.

Edit to above: lolz - irregardless? Silly nonsense words are silly
