[REQ] A Shezrie's Towns Request Thread

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 3:42 pm

... on the other hand that obsessive compulsive part of me wants you to work on it day and night until it is absolutely PERFECT, no matter how long it takes.

The problem is that it takes infinitely long - a work of art is never "finished". There is no perfection in matters of taste, so changes can continue to be made that are "improvements" to one person, and the opposite to others. It's too easy to get trapped in a cycle of change.

Help us end the tyranny of PERFECT!! (If we really wanted that, we wouldn't play Oblivion, would we?)

Quite right, I am a perfectionist and I have to draw the line at some point in order to actually get this mod released. :) So for now I will go with just the one colour and possibly add in more in a later update. Thanks for all the help.

So I have another request that may already exist. What medieval town is complete without a colourful flag rope to hang over the streets....

If anyone has the time I would love to have one rope of blue, green, red, purple flags or maybe just blue and green...

Here you are, it's without collision and you'll have to assign your colours in Nifskope since I've used dummy textures for flags. So just create 4 solid coloured .dds or use some existing textures. Rope is ok I think.

Awesome! Thank you so much! Should be easy enough to find some vanilla textures to suit. :foodndrink:

Btw, I put your balcony resource on MORE. Hope that is okay.

Of course. I remembered that you could use textures from beds or that folded cloths or something similar.

It looks brilliant! Really adds a splash of needed colour, but not to bright with the muted folded cloth textures. It really looks medieval, exactly what is needed to bring more colour and character to the town. The only problem is the length of the rope makes it limited where I can put it, if you have time, is it possible to please cut the rope to maybe half or even a third as long? Unfortunately I don't know how to do that as the rope is one long mesh.

It does look good. I'll do shorter versions tomorrow.

Fantastic thank you! :)

Here are a few general pics I thought I would put on here while updating the official wip thread on the ORE forums.

I was frustrated at having to close the town gate behind yet another random NPC wandering the main road. (They come through and open the gates while I am trying to take pictures, I have no idea what city they come from originally). Anyway, it occurred to me that merchants would surely set up stalls to take advantage of all these travellers. And so Pell's Gate now has a small market of stalls waiting to cheat hapless travellers out of their last coins.

This is the kitchen in the buyable player home in Haven Bay. The upper cabinets are openable and all the items are actually placed in there. The house also has sea views and curtains for the windows at night.

Do you know about Mr. Siika's market resource? I think that it has better stalls.
I was also making openable cupboards, but encountered some scaling problems later so it's on hold for now. http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll54/pero_lozhach/Learning%20Blender/cupboardclosed.jpg - http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll54/pero_lozhach/Learning%20Blender/cupboardopen.jpg

P.S. I have to go to work now, so ropes will come this afternoon or evening. :(

P.P.S. If it bothers you that the gates are left opened, you could either script gates directly or have a 'porter' NPC that would close them.

Edit: wrong link!

Got the new ropes, thanks! They are perfect! :)

Thanks for the suggestion of Mr Siika's market resource, that provided some far more colourful canopy covers for the stalls...

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n99/Shezrie/ScreenShot247.jpg

I kept with the current stalls as they are covered at night with custom locked covers and the vendors go home. Much more realistic then having an all day and night market.

I LOVE those those upper cabinets you made :o , I can think of quite a few houses they could go in as they would fit in perfectly with vanilla furniture. I hope you are able to get the issues solved and release as a resource as that is one resource that I know I would definitely use a lot. My cabinets open but they are retextured display cases and not perfect by any means. Yours look far better.

Thanks! Mine were supposed to be lower class cupboards and shelves. This is what happened: I have made separate cupboard body and door and then I did some serious Nifskope hacking (:)) to snitch the animation from regular doors. Everything was swell, but then I realised that I have made them really small (in pics they are scaled with factor 1,4 I think). So I have imported that to blender and scaled and exported, but then I haven't had any animation and bounding box was small and I overwrote existing files. So I need to find original .blend and export it again and do again that tedious animation snatching procedure.

Edit: and that animation sort of changes the scale of items, damn thing!

I don't think I mentioned before that there is another Display in the Gallery, other then the ones previously mentioned. However you can only see it if you are a really, REALLY GREAT fan of the Gallery. It is not open to the general riff raff public.

I will give you one hint though, it is somewhat inspired by Abu's Retreat, a Morrowind house mod by Phoebe, and it is WELL worth a look. ;)

So I did an FPS test around Pell's Gate and the results were an average of 35 FPS with a minimum of 25 when there were 5 NPC's present and a load of custom items, and a maximum of 46 in the clearest areas. Pretty sure that is pretty darn good for a 29 building town in the Tamriel Worldspace.

FPS has been my main concern in this mod. I run a medium range computer and run around town with no lag at all. I have been regreting not putting Pell's Gate in it's own worldspace as there is so much more that can be added, another 20 houses for a start...but maybe in the future. However I think that there will be no FPS problems, only in the future when I want to expand.
