Samurai in Cyrodil running amok

Post » Sat Dec 11, 2010 3:51 am

Hi there guys, I had given up for a while on a crashing problem in-game, and I came back to it and I think I've finally pin-pointed the problem: it's Samurai in Cyrodil, one of my favourites. It creates a gang war between ninjas and samurai, and gave me amazing weapons and armour to pick from the spoils. My Hun sorceress is naked without her armour. It's strange that the problem only began occurring during my last days of using the game, so I assumed it was because of another mod I added. I ran a conflict report and removed the ones that conflict with SiC, but for some strange reason, not only does that not work, but the mods reactivate after each time it crashes and I run the conflict detector again.

I'm not precisely sure how to display my active mods on here, so if you need to know, I'd be glad to if I can have instructions. Does any of this sound familiar, guys?

Do you know what mods you added in the past few days, that could be a strating point in identifying the culprit.

Also, do you use BOSS to sort your load order?

FYI: Some of your mods (IlluminationWithin.esp, Expanded Hotkeys and Spell Delete v1.0.esp, Beautiful PeopleV22) have better/improved alternatives around...

First, I most recently added MCaleb's Decompose Corpse, and a few others that aren't currently active since I started being more cautious. Just this morning I tried loading the mods in sections to see which worked and which didn't, and everything works alright unless SiC is active... but turning other things off isn't working anymore.

Second, I used OBMM to sort the load order.

Third, interesting, I tried recently to find the best modern versions of those, could you tell me which ones are the best upgrades?

http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=boss is an automatic load ordering utility, in OBMM you'll have to do it manually. For the basics, read the website where I linked you to first on posting your load order - it has all http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=tuning_oblivionnswered in one place.

Enhanced Hotkeys is a really new and improved hotkey mod (released last month), and is the most stable and bug-free. Search on TESNexus.
I think Animated Windows Lighting System (AWLS) (or is it Real Lights?) is a replacement for Illumination Within. I'll let some one more knowledgeable chime in on this. EDIT: I am right, see http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=popular_outdated_mods.
Same thing with Beautiful People, I've seen others refer to improved race facial mods, but as I don't use those, I don't know... I use Race Balancing Project myself that has a beautification module, and younger hotter NPCs women. RBP has more features than just beautifying people, so I don't think that's an exact replacement. Again, someone more in the know should respond to this...

Regards to SiC, I've never used it (or heard of it).

Regarding the crashing issue, can you revert to the earlier save when crashing was not an issue. Something might have crept in your savegame that is causing all the CTDs. It could be a corrupted spawn issue (if that is the case, crashes will consistently happen in one area. Try to do something somewhere else for you respawn period time (default 3 days), and then return to the area to see if it still persists).

Also read the http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=troubleshootingof the website.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into some of those things; although I have real lights... I just didn't realise they were different versions of each other. Never fear though, I don't have both activated at this time, though I'll replace one with the other and try it out.

As for reverting to a previous save, that's just what I did. I crashed every time I entered Anvil, and became frustrated and left. When I returned to try again, I loaded a previous save, and things were fine, until I went outside in Bravil during the day. It was fine at night, but during the day that was that. Wait, could that be a clue to what's going on? Something to do with daytime behaviour in cities?

Making the changes I suggested may or may not solve your crashing issues, but may have a beneficial effect elsewhere (reduced savegame bloating, better performance etc.)

Maybe it is Illumination WIthin. As I later edited my post, you may not have seen that it was AWLS that is a replacement for Illumination Within. I would suggest deactivating Illumination within and trying to see if crashing still happens.

As you have a really small modlist, you can try deactivating each mod till you find the culprit...I have 253 active mods, so that technique is not feasible for me anymore...

PS: Deactivating mods will cause your mod-added quests, items etc to disappear, so do this wisely... Create a backup of save games before you do this. Reactivating the mod and using the older savegame should bring your quests etc. back!

Alright, this is bizarre. I de-activated every single mod except for Samurai and it still happened; there's nothing for it to conflict with! Is it possible that it's because it wasn't properly installed? I suppose I may have skipped a file or to, it's conceivable...

Nevermind.... I reinstalled the mod, but it still crashes, now even more quickly. Before it took about 1 second, now it's even before the save game has entered the savegame. This didn't change during reinstallation of the mod, but rather as I de-activated the other mods.

Did you perhaps remove any mods on which your save game was dependent? While it may seem like removing mods should always make the game work better, there are circumstances where you may remove a mod you had activated in your saved game, and now the save game can't function properly without it. Unlikely, admittedly, but if your one mod alone is still crashing it's the best I can come up with.

Very good thought, running, but that didn't work either. Hell, it's been a while... I'm going to see if starting from scratch works. If it does, so be it and all, and I'll have fun. I'll let you know if the problem still persists, and I'll just try installing the game and mods from scratch, or something else!

Oh dear... the Han (Asian race) seem to have a locked eye colour; is there another mod that unlocks it? "All Eyes Unlocked" didn't do the trick, it doesn't know the Han race exists... I was able to do it with my last character, I had about 50 eye colours to choose from...

Don't panic: I had that just a little while ago.
Make your character and forget about eyes/hair(if hair is messed up too). Once you get the game loaded, use ShowRaceMenu in the console, and don't switch races.

If a race has only one set of eyes/hair, and you scroll past it, you can't choose different eyes (or hair) unless you do this.

Alright, within the ShowRaceMenu, I still can't move left or right between any eye colours. Is there another step I'm missing?

MaleBodyReplacerV4.esp
Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp

You shouldn't use both, so if you want the latter, skip the former. That said, I'd recommend against using Beautiful People as it has compatibility issues with just about all other race/cosmetic mods. Cobl Races is a much safer bet, adding lots of hairs, eyes and some races. Race Balancing Project has even more, but it changes other things as well so check if you want its other changes first.

Also, if using BP you don't need _Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp as it's merged in BP. That goes if you decide to switch to Cobl Races or RBP as well.

Thanks! Good advice.

So there appears to be a subroutine in place to stop eye-changes from being allowed in Han raced characters: when you choose them, the option is faded out. Is there a command I can enter somewhere, perhaps, that will enable them?
