I thought Prototype was in the process of already finishing up and polishing it off? Even then, Yeah, IGN gave it a crappy review and I found it pretty fun. Altho it did seem a little repetitive it was probably one of the best stress-release games I've ever seen. Crappy day? Nothing the gore and dismemberment of Prototype couldn't fix.

Anyways back to on topic. Reviews don't necessarily mean the demise of a franchise. So IGN gave it a 6. Gametrailers have it a nice 7.9 and Gamesradar gave it an 8. Those are both fairly big gaming companies as well. IGN is just like that one guy from highschool, You know the one I'm talking about. He's a total [censored] to everyone but somehow manages to have the highest popularity around campus? Yeah, IGN is that guy.
